Re: specialty training - Can find out on the respective college website e.g. RACP, RACS, ANZCA - different groups during med school organise events often held in the evening that provide an insight into training/different specialties - different “specialty interest groups“ - i think there is...

Otago Otago MBChB Class of 2028

Don’t worry. Could always just email them a note to say you are organizing etc. This happens every year and when I went through I couldn’t even get all the lap tests in my home town so had to wait until o-week and no dramas. If your blood tests come back showing you need boosters etc, they...

    UoA Graduate Category Chat/Enquiry

I had a similar issue wayy back when i applied. Auckland said a hard no while otago was fine (took 4 years for 3 year degree because i did a year study abroad). But best to just contact each uni individually.

Best to ask Otago directly but if the % is available they will use other it is the ?lower grade boundary. Unfortunately my undergrad uni never gave the actual % grades on transcripts

I think it is in the ALM handbook on moodle (or at least it used to be)

    UoO HSFY 2022

I didn’t really use textbooks either in 2nd or 3rd year. The book i used most was first aid for USMLE for their nice colour diagrams and lots of memory aids and summaries. I tended to use other textbooks/revision books/specialty specific books once in 4th/5th/TI year.

    UoA Graduate Category Chat/Enquiry

It is usually a very basic form that gets filled out - like yes or no “do you have any concerns regarding this person working with children” if yes, elaborate etc. its more government required paperwork than paperwork for the selection/decision process

    The Clinical Years

They’re a very common style of pant students/doctors wear. Just check you’re comfortable that you can kneel/squat ok (e.g. taking bloods or bending over for exam etc). 😄

Otago Otago MBChB V Exams (Updated: 2018)

I did the blue book questions during the week before the final year exams and I think most people did it this way

    Comparison of Medical Schools

It varies year to year. There is opportunity for swaps if people have to be balloted. Wellington has had big 4th year classes recently. (Probably similar numbers to Christchurch).

    Otago MBChB Class of 2024

I found the Chem path tutorials difficult but there was really good online modules/questions on Moodle that prepare you for the types of questions in the final exam. Also you could look at past papers to see what comes up i.e. lots of repetition :)

    Otago MBChB Class of 2021

Check out RMO for info on applying for PGY1 jobs. Each clinical school runs TI year differently and has different assignments. There is also the possibility for the TI to change in the next year or so (shorter year, move the modules in ALM around) - lots of discussions being had at the moment...

    Otago MBChB Class of 2023

Possible! People have missed weeks due to conferences, family emergencies etc. Depends on which run/convenor & whether there needs to be make up. Like I know Surgery (ALM4) in Wellington has been quite strict in the pass

FY2 UK --> NZ (training position competitiveness)

I’m guessing you want neurosurg? No NZ applicants have got onto the training program for 8 years. it has been multiple years since any NZ applicants have even interviewed. So very competitive. Many move to Australia to try increase their chance (however that may be)

    First Year (FY) BHSc/BSC 2019 Chat/Enquiry

I used a close friend and a sports club officer and had no problems. I think the question they get asked is more along the lines of “do you have any concerns of X working with children?” Rather than “how well does X work with children”. I could be completely wrong however
