Should I pursue Medicine?

I'm not sure about being a doctor and would appreciate any suggestions. I love talking to people, making people happy, caring for others, anatomy and physiology, have an interest in chemistry and am fascinated by immunology. The only thing that I don't think I'd like is the whole surgery aspect of being a doctor. I understand this is a necessary part of medicine but is there options within the field to branch away from a surgery based occupation? Being a GP would be nice but are there specialisations that don't entail surgery as a central part of the job?
Thanks for your help :)

There are many career pathways, both in and out of medicine, which fulfill these criteria you have outlined.

I'm nearly done with med school and I don't understand the appeal of surgery at all either, you're definitely not alone. I don't find it queazy or anything, I just don't enjoy it. Not an issue :)

After med school and 1-2 years as a junior doc, you won't have to do any more surgery :) As for other specialties that do surgery, depends what you define as "surgery". Many "specialties" (physicians, GP, dermatologists, ophthalmologists, obs/gyn, radiologists) do their own procedures which are "surgical" to varying degrees.
- eg. Obs/gyn folk do a lot of gyn surgery and also c-sections
- eg. GPs and dermatologists do skin biopsies and such
- eg. Gastroenterologists do lots of scopes

So you can avoid "surgery", but many areas of medicine will have their own niche procedures which you can consider as "minor surgeries" :) Granted I'm just a med student, someone who has been through actual doctoring will have a better perspective!
