any other tips for first year bluebird? is it possible to get HDs if you study hard? i am really keen to become an uber nerd and do anything necessary to smash every subject (only need to do 3 first sem) thus not limiting my options later on if i decide to specialise. so a 2010 first year student will be based at parklands for 2010, southport for 2011 and 2012, and then back to parklands in 2013 provided the new hosp is finished and the world hasn't blown up ;)

edit: congrats on mastery of the mso embedded quote @@@@@. good luck to you and you daughter in your future medical / mso endeavors.

Is it possible to get honours with griffith dent so you can specialise later? Cant find anything on their website and I asked at interviews and they didnt know.

Specializing is something apparently you'd like to keep your options open about - you'll have to be in the top 10-15% of your cohort.

very much so, especially now that they've taken psych out of the course!

BTW if anyone is interested in buying second hand textbooks to cover most of first year, (except for the new courses they introduced this yr) PM me :)

Hey
Well I'm not really one of those give-up-everything-to-get-HDs people. So I'm sitting on a credit average. But yeah, it's totally possible. Especially in first year. Super especially if you've done science in high school.

A girl I met in first year who became my best friend, who became my roommate (and is still my best friend amazingly lol!) is HDing most exams and subjects, and we have identical social lives, as we live together and have the same group of friends. We go out maybe 1 or 2 weekends a month, and have friends around a few nights a week, and go out for lunch and what not, and she's HDing. Im Cing. lol. But yeah, you dont have to give up everything.

I'm not really sure about honours and specialising. Some people are saying that because it's 2 seperate degrees (a bach and then a grad dip) your GPA gets cleared after the first 3 years and starts again in the grad dip. Which I suppose means if you want to specialise and need a good GPA/grades then only the last 2 years count towards this? That only works if that rumour is true, which I haven't looked into. So don't trust me on that.

just got the offfer from uac.

just wanted to ask a quick question. did you guys accept the offer through uac, qutac etc, or do we accept it through the package sent from griffith?

For QTAC, once you've been offered a place in a degree you accept it through them...There is a tab along the top that says 'respond to offer' or something to that effect

The package sent from Griffith is just to help you out with enrolling in your courses and some other stuff you need to do. It walks you through it.

When you graduate you have a license to practice general dentistry. If you're talking about a fellowship to the Royal Australian College of Dental Surgeons - then you'll need to do an exam.

HEy guys!!
i just finished first yr dent and im onto my second yr...wwooot!
i believe uni village (not GUV) or uni square are the best places to stay at!
i stayed at uni village coz i loved how their was carpettin in the apartments compared to tiling at uni square and the courtyard where ppl hang out is larger at uni village compared to uni square. Uni village is conveniently located close to a bus stop which takes u to all the main destinations such as harbour town (very convenient for grocery shopping) and pacific fair and Australia fair and gh1 (where u will hav ur dentistry subjects). The uni village is also real close to uni (10 min walk) and a service station and many restaurants (thai, pizza place, asian) are located close by as well which can come in real handy when u run out of food n other necessities.

if u wanna talk about anyfin or need any advice about dentistry (particularly first year) just pm and ill send u my email addy.
I know it can be a tricky transitions esp when u move from interstate. So plz msg me and im willing to help out ;-)

btw im also sellin my books from first yr as well...all r in real good condition so pm if u wanna buy!!! thxz

They will probably tell you when the forms are due and stuff at orientation. If you don't go, they'll probably send out e-mails as well.

Just wondering, any idea if you guys have placements for first year? Since they took out 1005DOH I was thinking you don't ... which would suck coz placements was actually pretty cool
