I figure, if I add to this as we go, it won't be such a pain to put together at the end. Obviously there's not much 'collated data' yet, but there will be :D Merry Christmas, everyone!

I don't think Charles Sturt has a Medicine course, only Dentistry (I checked their website and they only have Medical Science :D)

I think the 88th %ile, 99.75, CSP for Monash is me. Had rural status too :D

Also, data to add from my friends!

Hey cookie,
Just wondering if the person who achieved 90 %ile and 98.35 was a non-rual applicant for Adelaide University. What are my chances of getting an offer in the future rounds with a similar score to that person?

They were non-rural (assume all the scores listed above are non-rural unless stated otherwise :D), although they had a pretty good interview. Not too sure about second and future offer round chances, but don't lose hope - I know at least several people, including me, who have rejected Adelaide offers.

Perhaps the 99.7 and 99.75 scores had special considerations that put their ATARs above 99.85, but I am unsure.

EtA: I have seen posts that state these 99.75/99.7 ATARs may have been top-up offers. Perhaps Dentistry will do the same thing. It's important to note that what UAC posts is the ATAR of those who make it directly via the first round, and not the eventual cohort's minimum ATAR :) .

I wouldn't say that any information "suggested" by Griffith on its website is less reliable than if actual information was to be collated. I'm sure this is what Griffith does before they publish information on their website anyway :) .

But yes, I would assume that there are indeed offers that have been made to new high-school graduates who used their ATAR for application, maybe just not for any MSOers in that category so far :) .

Best of luck!

This also has the medical science cutoff at 99.85 but we've seen offers on here that have been given at 99.7 and 99.75. Are you sure these aren't just the cut-offs the griffiths website suggest.

Griffith only publishes the medsci cut off for GC campus as 99.85.

As the data suggests, these are probably the first round offer cut offs for each campus:
GC - 99.80
Nathan - 99.70
SC - 99.35

I think it’s fair to conclude that Griffith slightly bump up the published cut offs for their courses.

Awesome job LMG! I was wondering if it is worthwhile to collect another important data in the stats. It looks quite a few universities in the list prefer students from their own state. Except for Qld universities where you can say this is not a factor in the selection, unfortunately universities like Tasmania, UWA, WSU, Monash, Flinders (through UES), Adelaide, UNSW and so on have some form of preference to their state candidates. So it will be good data to have so that people from interstate can avoid applying to these Unis .

Another useful data is:
ATAR (excluding adjustment factors)
ATAR plus any adjustment factors

I love VTAC as they clearly state this. e.g VTAC: Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre
Others TACs are dodgy. For example, Flinders uni's stat are skewed with UES points. I wish SATAC and other TACs follow vtac's lead.
Yes, UWA and Tasmania are other offenders preferring students from their state.

Because SC is a relatively new med course, do you reckon the cutoff for next year will also be around 99.4ish?

Yes, UWA and Tasmania are other offenders preferring students from their state.

As much as there are bonus points for in-state students - there is a good reason for it and it's sometimes not the fault of the university. Tasmania for example has a quota that is set by the Tasmanian government that requires the university to allocate the vast majority of places available to school leavers to Tasmanian students. This is no fault of the university but more of the fact that the Tasmanian government is trying to build its own sustainable medical workforce in-state. The university has no say in this whatsoever (i.e. don't comply and the government removes the places) however from previous years when non-standard entry was a larger quota the proportion of Tasmanians in the non-standard quota was much, much smaller, owing to the fact that they were chosen based on merit, and no regulation was applied as to whether they had to have lived in Tasmania.

This isn't a result of the tertiary admissions' centres, nor is it a result of the universities. If it was possible all universities would simply choose the best candidates without bonus points etc. because then the performance would reflect the best on their selection. This is a result of government policy, not a result of TACs at all.

Someone correct me if I am incorrect but I thought UNSW doesn't favour NSW grads, they simply interview them first. Interstate interviewees have an equal chance of being offered a place in a later round. Flinders and Adelaide do not through UES, as interstaters are eligible for these bonuses too depending on their school. Adelaide previously gave UMAT bonuses to SA grads however apparently no longer do so. UTAS and Monash seem to be the only ones that really favour their state's grads. (WSU doesn't favour NSWers but rater GWSers). No idea about UWA tho. Although I do agree that UES bonuses means that the apparent cut off for unis like flinders is inaccurate. On their website they state the lowest 25% had a high 97 atar However I believe that anyone below very high 99's only got in through this UES.

The course definitely flew under the radar this year, as getting into medicine with 99.35 and no UMAT/interview requirements is quite lucky with all the competition these days. I think the SC provisional entry course will still remain less desirable than Griffith’s own provisional course as it is accelerated and offers a completed MD in 6 years rather than 7. Depending on the amount of exposure given to the course in 2018, I’d see the entry requirements increasing to 99.4-99.6.

I support what the universities are doing as each Uni has a valid reason. I am only saying that adding that data would also be useful in the decision making process for future students.

UNSW by selecting interstate students at the last possible minute is passively doing it. It is probably smart of them as less interstate students will turn up (unlike JCU interviews). But by not giving opportunity at the same time as instate students, there is always some question mark. IMHO, I don't think they are actively discouraging interstate students. It is just a passive attempt. The same goes to Monash, UWA, Tasmania and other Uni's that offer last to interstate students. Regarding UES, it was mostly related to the need for this data that I mentioned it:
ATAR (excluding adjustment factors)
ATAR plus any adjustment factors

more on this here Universities Bonus Schemes - SATAC

>>>>>
School-based bonuses
South Australian and Northern Territory schools attracting equity bonuses will be identified using criteria agreed to by SATAC’s member universities which consider:

  • schools’ remoteness as defined under the Australian Standard Geographical Classification
  • the ‘participation rate’ (the percentage of students in each school gaining an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR))
  • the mean ATAR achieved in each school
  • schools’ Index of Community Socio-Educational Advantage.
Interstate schools attracting equity bonuses will be identified using a subset of these criteria, which consider:

  • schools’ remoteness as defined under the Australian Standard Geographical Classification
  • schools’ Index of Community Socio-Educational Advantage.
For enquiries regarding equity bonuses for interstate schools contact SATAC.

Schools attracting bonuses will be identified on an annual basis when data for all criteria becomes available. SATAC contacts all SA/NT schools each year regarding whether their students will be eligible for a schools-based bonus in the following year. The classification of individual schools may change from year to year.

Students will not need to apply for a school-based bonus — any such bonuses will automatically be applied by SATAC in the calculation of students’ selection ranks.
