Bond Bond Medicine: Psychometric Test and Interview Overview

I think that’s fine. I’m pretty sure if they see someone who spent like 10+ hours or something for the exams they would be placed on some watch list or their scores would be analysed pretty closely. It wouldn’t be logical or even make any sense to just state someone is cheating because they took 10+ hours.

To be fair, Bond and the provider did recommend that you should spend around 30-40 min for both tests... but look around 3 hours is fine. I’m pretty sure some ppl on the forum spent long as well :) what’s done is done; no point worrying about it now.
I mean if you lie on the psych test they would most likely catch you out at the interview...

Did they actually specify any particular amounts of time? I think they should have told us beforehand. I took my time and probably went over 3 hours...
Hey! don't worry about this at all, I'm a current 2nd year and took my time (probs over 3.5 hrs lol) to do the test. I still got in so I don't think that time plays any role in determining your performance. Best of luck for interview invites!!

Hey everyone, I'm currently a clinical student in Bond itself and if anyone has any qs about this stuff PM me and hopefully I can collate some responses and have a big post for everyone to see if you'd rather not post publicly. Gl for all for this Fri!
Thanks so much, you're a lifesaver! I'll just go ahead and ask here so everyone can see, what would your biggest tips be? or something you wish you had done differently? also, what are some common questions they have asked in previous years?

- Yeah so essentially I'd make sure your timing is on point, if that means you answer questions a little rushed so be it. Because sometimes there may be multiple qs in the same station so if you keep talking you may miss other parts of the q itself.
- If you feel like you screwed a station, chill out and restart for the next station. It's not over until it's over, so try not to be disheartened if you think you screwed up, chances are, you probably didn't.
- Relax and answers qs w a structure and try to have a natural flow to your responses. Again easier said than done. However just having an engaging conversation with confidence can really make you stand out.
- You guys aren't doctors, so don't bother trying to get technical if you somehow already know medical things (more for the post grads than undergrads tbh). So just try to be logical with your thinking, that's what they expect and want, so that's good enough!!
Check my about section for my email if you or anyone wants any more specific queries regarding interview prep and such. I'm keen to help out!!

Sorry it's a confidentiality thing to talk about the specifics of the interview itself aha. But do post questions here about it and maybe we can word it better to help everyone out!!

hey lot of great discussion about interview timings :) but being specific, how much would time would u aim for and wouldn’t this change depending on stimulus? for example, a role play situation you would preferably want to go for the full 8 minutes and react to the actors comments. but in a generic question about medicine, you’d maybe want to go for 4 mins and leave 4 mins for follow up questions given ??

Congratulations to everyone who has gotten an offer so far!!! If you guys have any questions at all about the interview timings, format etc feel free to ask them on here :)

Just some general tips and points for the interviews to get you guys warmed up a bit

- Includes 4 stations + 1 rest station
- 8 mins per station (7 mins + 1 min reading time)

Types of stations
ethical scenarios

eg - 2 patients - 24 year old smokes and 60 year old with grandchildren - both need lung transplants - has a lot of factors but comes down to what you think is right and can justify

eg- you are a GP- referred them to see cancer specialist - they say that they have found priest who can heal them - what are the issues - what do you respond to

Communication skills

testing your ability to explain the situation to examiner to be clear in what you are saying

ability to give instructions , how you break down complex ideas into simple ones

Acting stations

given a scenario and have to respond to cues of the actor

respond naturally

take it seriously and as if its real

Personal Questions

personal qualities/ why you want to do medicine

strengths and weaknesses

knowledge of healthcare system / personal experiences in the system

Hi, thanks for the tips, they are really helpful!
I just have some few questions regarding the interview, don't worry about them if they concerns the confidentiality of the interview:

1. Is the interview a 1:1 interview? Or a group interview?

2. Is there any examples regarding the communication or acting stations? Is it fairly similar to the scenario station?

3. For the communication skills, how would the questions be asked/in what format?

4. For each station, I believe there will be one basic question and some following up questions (please correct me if I'm wrong!), what is the approximate time, that you would recommend, we should leave for the basic/each question? (Just so I get an idea of how to time myself)

Thanks so much for taking your time to read, if you can't answer them it is totally understandable! :)

Not a group
Bond will hire some actor/actress in acting station, it is only one acting station. According my info, this station has 40 % of weight in interview.

Two examiners will give points ( 1 to 5) in per-defined sheet to give points respectively then average it.

I have found acting station is the most challenge station.

heyy ! first of all congrats for getting an interview for the Bond med program.

1- the interview is 1:1 with up-to 2 interviewers in most stations sitting in the room. Don't be too fussed about this, they're usually very nice and genuinely want to see you succeed. They don't really interrupt you except to ask more questions or inform you if you're answering on the wrong track

2- the acting station usually involves a really good and trained actor, the interviewers and yourself. You are generally required to break some sort of news or discuss something that has gone wrong in the actors life
for eg - You are watching Katarinas cat for her while she is on a holiday, she is on a flight back home and you are going to the airport to pick her up. While reversing out of the driveway you run over her cat. Convey this to her or something along the lines of that

3- The questions are usually asked with a main stem with a few follow up questions. questions in this station are generally about group dynamics and how you would handle different situations with multiple people involved

4- Depends on the station really, if its acting you want to take up the full 7-8 mins but if its other stations try answer within 4/5 mins in my opinion so it leaves time for you to think about + answer the follow up. However if you answer follow up question quickly, you can always say " I also wanted to add this to my answer for the first question OR I have just thought of something that I would like to say about the first question"

Hope this helps :))) don't hesitate to ask any other questions !
Best of luck

When you say knowledge of the healthcare system, exactly how in-depth does this knowledge have to be? What specifically about the healthcare system would be beneficial to know?

The max you would need to know would be things like why would you not wanna be a nurse and a doctor instead ( so distinction of roles in terms of healthcare), any times you may have volunteered in a healthcare environment and the specifics of that. Basically if you say anything about med/ hospitals/ doctors make sure your info in correct. You will not be expected to know anything too specific if anything at all. Hope this helps !

What if you've only done shadowing? I've volunteered as well but not in a healthcare setting

hey

I heard that they won't ask medical related acting or ethics scenarios. Like instead of asking you to discuss ethics regarding a Jehovah's Witness patient, they will ask you about friends cheating in an exam or something. Is this information true?

Thank you

either way, Med related or not, it’s being asked for a reason, a person cheating on an exam and what you do about is important for medical schools to see if you are rule-abiding or not, which is a very important trait to be a doctor. So if you really analyse whatever they ask, you should be able to identify what they are actually looking for. Again, for acting stations, I assume they will either be consoling someone and/or breaking bad news. Either of those things, unis will want to see if you can do it in an ethical way. You don’t need to tell someone they have cancer to “break bad news” you can do the classic example of breaking an important object of your friend’s, or crashing into someone’s car, either of those are bad news. The way you tell them and how you break it down for them is what the uni looks for. So don’t worry about if it’s Med related or not, all you should focus on is what qualities of a doctor you need to show in these stations rather than if the question is directly linked to Med or not.

Shadowing is a great thing to talk about ! def try integrate it into your answers. for eg if the question is about teamwork you can talk about how the quality is something that is crucial to be a successful healthcare professional and how it is integral to providing the patient with the best possible care. An example of when you were part of a healthcare team or observed one was when you shadowed a dr at so and so ward etc etc. So dont make your experiences the focal point of your answer, show your critical thinking but also show how you are able to relate important qualities to healthcare via your experiences.

Or if you have not done any healthcare volunteering you can still talk about how you were in a uni society/ debate team in highschool/ sports whatever and how a particular experience in that team made you realise how important teamwork is and how you realise that working towards a common goal is very important within a healthcare team and without that you cannot provide your patient with the best possible heath outcomes.

Sorry for the word vomit hehe hope this helps tho :))

Keep the questions coming guys! keen to answer any and all questions you have !

Also guys another super important thing in this interview is actually knowing how to answer the question "why do you want to do Medicine at Bond?'' and also "What do you know about the bond medical program?"

Make sure you have a very very solid understanding of the bond program outline which is listed on their website. And yes i know that Bond is not the first choice for many of you but still it is important to know the good aspects of this medical program.

Look, either way, do your best, no one is there to hurt you, so show them that, and you’ll be fine, no matter if they are chill or not
