    Some questions on Halls

    1. To my knowledge all of the halls except Briggs and Jackomos don't have individual fridges, although there are communal fridges available in the shared kitchens (I don't recommend them because they get very full and gross). So if you want a personal fridge you will have to go and buy one for...

    [Undergrad] Rural Students!

I assume that they are mostly without bonus points. Most universities that I applied to didn't give bonus points as such, they just allowed students from a rural background to compete for 25% of places amongst themselves. And since the standard of applicants in the rural quota is lower, the...

    [Undergrad] ATAR Thread!

I scored a 98.20 in 2012. I was from remote NT and regional QLD.

That's embarrassing. I have no idea where that place is! But I agree it does look nice.

    [Undergrad] UNSW rural or local?

No there isn't a separate application, you only need to apply through VTAC. After the cutoff date for VTAC, Monash will contact you and give you the opportunity to prove your rurality through the submission of a statutory declaration.

    [Undergrad] UNSW rural or local?

Rural is always advantageous. But other unis allow you do suburban placements despite getting into the course through the rural scheme (like Monash), as long as you get into the CSP stream not the Extended Rural Cohort or BMP stream.

    [Undergrad] UNSW rural or local?

You will have a better chance of getting a place if you are a rural applicant, regardless of your rurality rating. I can't really help you to answer the other question, you have to decide that for yourself. But remember that you are more likely to be admitted as a rural student.

[Undergrad] How do the universities contact applicants to notify them of interviews?

I was contacted for interviews at UAdel, UNSW and Monash by email. So if you are overseas then you should still be able to receive the interview offers. I am not sure about other unis.

    UMAT 2013 results discussion/advice

I don't even know why you are asking this. 99.95 and 97th percentile! You have a better chance than just about everyone.

    UMAT 2013 results discussion/advice

If you still are sure that you want to do medicine then you may as well continue to try. You never know how you will go next time. Although I only did UMAT once, several MSO members have done it many times and it sounds like there can be great variance in scores year-to-year.

    UMAT 2013 results discussion/advice

I think that you have a very good chance for a UNSW interview. I am not so sure about UAdel as it really depends on if you are from SA. If you're from SA then I think that you have a great chance, but interstate students have a harder time. From memory the first round interview UMAT cutoff was...

Embarrassing result - is it worth getting a remark?

Although it probably won't change your score, don't make your decision based on how you will look to ACER. It doesn't really matter what they think of you. If you want it remarked then get it remarked. But don't expect a new score.

    UMAT 2013 results discussion/advice

It is really easy. Apply everywhere! It is too hard to estimate how your UMAT will be relative to the competition and where you have the best chance. If you are serious about medicine (and can afford the applications), then apply everywhere so you don't need to worry this.

    UMAT 2013 results discussion/advice

It is very hard to speculate about your chances without any idea of your possible ATAR. With a very good ATAR then you probably have a quite good chance of at least receiving an interview. But congratulations, that is a good UMAT score :D. And make sure that you apply everywhere, you never know...

    UMAT 2013 results discussion/advice

You have a great chance of getting a lot of interviews! I managed to get lots of interviews as a rural student with a far lower UMAT (80th percentile) and a similar ATAR, so from personal experience I think that your chances are really good. Good work!

[Undergrad] 2013 Medicine Entry Advice Thread

I am certain that you cannot be offered a place in more than one medicine (or any) course in each state. Remember that offers are given out through the admissions bodies (UAC, QTAC, etc) and they only give your top ranking preference. The universities don't give out offers themselves; they...

    [Undergrad] Monash and Melbourne

You are correct about Monash. There are three separate courses that are listed in VTAC: CSP, Extended rural cohort and bonded medical place. You can apply for all of them through VTAC and it won't hurt your chances. In fact, I recommend that you apply for all or them (if you are prepared to take...

[Undergrad] 2013 Medicine Entry Advice Thread

I know that some universities are able to see the preference order. But I don't if they are the NSW unis or not... Sorry I can't really help with this question. Maybe someone else will be able to answer for you?
