Announcement 2017 Project - Official MSO Rules/Policies Update

Hi,

We are going to update the MSO Rules/Policies page such that it will easily accessible to all members. This thread will be used to collate all existing MSO rules/policies which can be made into a new page at the end. This will be the place to discuss any issues regarding the rules/policies also. I would like to invite the currently active administrators and moderators to contribute @A1 @Ben @frootloop @Mana @pi @Ruth since they are most familiar with the current rules/policies. All other members are welcome to contribute as well.

I will begin with listing some of the rules/policies and members may further contribute/build on the list by making a post(s) below.

Note that I will not tolerate (if I am allowed) any redundant/useless posts in order to keep the thread clean for efficiency.

Thank you,

Stuart

Rules
  • Profanity is disallowed - Consequence?
  • Advertisement is disallowed - Consequence?

Where are the current MSO rules? It seems those links posted by @Havox do not work anymore hence why I've suggested some obvious ones as well. I hope that is okay.

- Disallow large gif signatures (not that I've seen many have it but just as a rule anyway).
- The display pictures must be in good taste. This means no vulgar or violent images, pornography, or profanity.
- No duplicate accounts allowed.
- Any impersonation of a user is prohibited.
- Do not post-pad in threads. Try to quote everyone in same post if possible instead of making multiple posts.
- Repetitively posting same question in different forums is prohibited.
- Do not derail a thread's topic (post a different thread if possible).
- Do not publicly post or share PMs with users unless you have the permission of the sender to do so.
- Do not insult other forum members.
- Do not post links to phishing sites.
- Do not bump threads, be patient and wait for a reply.

More suggestions to be added.

No doxxing (sharing personal information about other users without their consent).

- Do not try and impersonate a mod, supermod, superuser (anything other than your own forum status). :)

No discrimination on the basis of race or gender.

These are some excellent suggestions team!

We should probably also clarify that our position on UMAT prep discussion has changed - and remind members that if they chose to post anything which results in litigation from a prep course company, that's on them (i.e. remind them to think before posting).

Actually, 'Think before pressing 'Post Reply'' is probably a good general rule haha.

Hi, could we have that as one of the tabs on MSO menu so that it can be easily accessible? Thanks @Mana! Looks great.

I have a small idea about how to change it... but it seems like one hell of a lot more effort to change it to that given my lack of technical expertise (there is a reason I've been a mod for so long and only an admin now).

Not sure if possible but could we have the MSO rules on the front page when we log in rather than a separate forum ? Probably more effective in people being made aware of the rules ?

I'll add it as a forum tab on my next set of days off. I will probably add some specific instructions on forum pages about thread naming conventions too so they are easily visible. Thanks for the great ideas!
