Did you attend the JMP in Nov-Dec 2018? The interstate candidates will be doing the JMP interview on 23/1/19 and 24/1/19 (this week). Are you an interstater for both JMP and Curtin. Good luck with Curtin as both your GPA and UMAT are in good nick, with a good performance in the MMIs you will get through with an offer I hope.

There were approx 16 Interstate students studying 1st year med at Curtin last year

Interview invite

University:
Curtin
Course: Med
UMAT: 176, 86%ile
Section 1: 55
Section 2: 58
Section 3: 63
ATAR or GPA: 98.05
Special Considerations: N/A
The Stats on TISC online TISCOnline - Application and Offer Statistics - 2018/2019 states that the total offers made were 41 in 2018 and the remaining will be done this week (I hope). Does it not mean that a total of over 30 will be interstates this year? If the total intake is 80, then from previous offers for WACE students, the interstate would be 39. Not sure if I am correct!

Thanks for the luck! I'll need it!
And yeah, I went to the JMP in... gosh, was that November? It feels both so long ago and not long at all. But yeah, I didn't get an offer but didn't get rejected either. So fingers crossed for that one, too. I'm not an interstater for JMP, but would have to make the move out to WA if I got into Curtin.

I remember vaguely it was discussed that a GPA of 7.0 is equivalent to 99.95 in ATAR. Is that correct? I think HD is awarded in the University for a mark ranging from 85 % to 100 % in subjects resulting in a GPA of 7.0. Whereas an ATAR of 99.95 is much harder to score in comparison as one would need to score over 95/100 in many subjects. While I completed four subjects from the university from year 8 to 11 from school as a Gifted student (along with regular Uni students), I managed HD in all the four subjects from Bio Med Science with hard work but not so hard as the school subjects and my GPA shows 7.0. I found HSC much harder with 99.20 ATAR floundering in Physics in HSC final, which took my predicted 99.90 down to 99.20. :( . But none of these achievements came to the rescue of scoring a Medicine offer for me anywhere. Why waste school time for these GAT courses at the University in conjunction with School subjects...putting more agony in the normal school work??? There is no reward/recognition at all. My experience!

I think we have a UAC table that shows GPA 7.00 = 99.50 ATAR equivalent when a conversion is necessary.

Thanks, LMG as always. I am calling on behalf of my close mate who did not join this forum. He appeared for the Curtin interview with ATAR 99.10 UMAT 180. He felt satisfied with the interview performance in 6 stations out of 8, although the other two were not bad, no expressions from the assessors (which is expected). Considering the high stake for ATAR 40% in the offer, do we know how many would have given the interview at Curtin with an ATAR of over 99.10? Any guess. I am burning the midnight oil. Cheers.

Lowest was 72 and 63 %ile for non-rural, non-broadway WA applicants (maybe those students could've been broadway?? but they didn't say so). And the ATAR cutoff is 99.

Beware these are individual cutoffs. When they are considered in combination 72%ile/99.1 doesn't mean you make the cut. In combination a low-end UMAT requires a high-end ATAR to balance up.

Yep I get that. See I had a low Umat - 69%tile and 162 raw but my ATAR is 99.95, so I thought I should get at least an interview as I know someone on the forum got an offer with 63%tile 158 raw and atar of 99.75.

Actually they seemed to have messed up something with my address and high school scores as I studied in NZ but moved to Perth in December so had provided the wa address for tisc. initially, around November they thought i was a wa applicant but i cleared that up then, by which time umat scores were out but not ncea, but the lady said she would call back in jan when my results were out suggesting my umat was ok. now they havent been in touch with me till i hunted them down yesterday for my interview, which she had trouble finding what happened then suddenly theyre saying my umat was too low, again if people with lower umat and atar are getting seats then how is it possible i cant even get an interview. im sure they messed something up in their system with my address and grades but this is quite unfair i believe.

Interview invites released approximately 3.50pm on Monday, 22nd October.

The last three figures in each row correspond to possible eligibility formulae. None may be correct!!
1. S1*0.45+S2*0.45+S3*0.1 - looks like we can rule this one out
2. S1+S2 - probably not quite specific enough, but a decent guide
3. S1+S2+S3*0.1 - closest to date based on current data

Let's see which looks closest at the end of all this fun!

Hi, I need URGENT help! Can you please let me know how many of those shown are interstate interviews and/or offers?
If you are an interstate student who has received an interview or offer at UWA - University of Western Australia PLEASE REPLY to this with your umat and atar results!!

The university is now saying that they have different thresholds, especially for umat, between interstate and domestic WA students! This cannot be right, only special considerations are rural, broadway, indigenous etc. the rest are in 'High Achievement Quota'!! Can someone please advise about this, I'm very sure the university has made a mistake and is avoiding blame by making stuff up.

Just for the sake of statistics - I got nothing from JMP but an offer for Curtin.
Jesus, such incredible scores and no offer to JMP. That's very intimidating for me, as a 2020 JMP hopeful!

Do you think your interview and MMI let you down?

Congratulations on Curtin!

Did you end up getting an offer? Were you already studying at Curtin?

green_eyed_girl had posted up her interview invites earlier. When she posted in January "for the sake of statistics" high chances that was a place offer from Curtin. She's from NSW so was not already studying at Curtin and would have had to apply with a completed degree.

Gday,
I have noticed the interview invites on here for last year from JMP had either a high ATAR or high UMAT or both.( eg: UMAT 72 % ATAR 99.0)
My question if, if JMP are solely basing the interview invites off of UCAT scores this year, will the percentile requirement (threshold) be higher? like 85% +.
I know that's hard to say without application numbers, but I guess you can average it.
ATAR has no influence on JMP interview invites - if there were lots of scores with high ATARs, that would merely be coincidence / the fact that most medicine applicants have ATARs on the upper end of the scale. Invites were purely based on S1 score in UMAT last year, which meant that those with relatively low overall UMAT scores (e.g. overall 72%ile) but high S1 scores received interviews.

This year it will be the aggregate score of S1-4 in UCAT that will determine interview invites. I'd estimate that maybe a slightly higher percentile than the UMAT S1 %ile required last year would be this year's cutoff point (because we've presumably lost the 50/50/50 rule from last year that used to weed out some of the applicants) but that's purely my guess and I don't have anything scientific to back that up.
