Thought I would start this thread given that UMAT is in a day!
Good luck everyone!
Thought I would join in. I've just finished 1.5 years of pharmacy but had decided at the start of this year I'd love to do dentistry. This year is the last I can use my ATAR and I hadn't previously sat the UMAT so hoping for the best! Good luck to everyone and hopefully we'll all see each other in dentistry next year
Welcome to the thread!
If you have any questions, please do ask them!
I was hoping for this thread to become a place for aspiring Adelaide Dentistry students to mingle and help each other with queries about the dental program/school/student life/Adelaide in general.
It's a great idea
Hi friends! I'm keen on doing dentistry at Adelaide if I get the required UMAT cut-off and do well in the interview! Good to see other aspiring dentists here
Since the SATAC application opens on Monday 7th August, here is the admission guide!
It may answer some of your questions.
REMINDER: SATAC applications close on 29th of September!
Bump! Hope everyone is doing well. Please let me know if you're interested in a facebook group to meet/befriend people prior to uni starting.
The facebook group is: http://www.facebook.com/groups/381739672238442/
Feel free to invite anyone you know who would be interested
I just have a question about the prerequisite requirements for BDS at Adelaide Uni and I didn't want to start a new forum so I hope you don't mind me asking here~ (also because SATAC offers are coming out tomorrow and I'm freaking out)
As far as I know based off the internet the prerequisites are:
"SACE Stage 2: two Science subjects: one chosen from Chemistry, Mathematical Methods, Specialist Mathematics, Physics; and one chosen from Biology, Geology, Chemistry, Physics. If Stage 2 studies were undertaken prior to 2017, the equivalent subject was known as Mathematical Studies.
IB: two Science subjects: one chosen from Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics; and one from Biology, Chemistry or Physics. (SL grade 4/HL grade 3).
Equivalent university courses: All applicants must have successfully completed the prerequisite subjects or equivalent, such as a first year Human Biology subject (fullyear) as part of the Bachelor of Health and Medical Sciences degree. Subject prerequisites are applicable to all Bachelor of Dental Surgery entry pathways"
1. I have no idea what SACE is (maybe because I'm from Sydney and it's an Adelaide thing?)
2. I didn't do IB. I did Chemistry, Physics and 4u Mathematics for HSC
3. So far I've completed 2 years of uni doing Optometry at UNSW, so I didn't do Bachelor of Health Sciences or any Medical Science degree. But I did do Biology, Chemistry, Biological Chemisty, Physics, Anatomy and Physiology so far.
I basically haven't met the specific requirements but I feel like what I've done so far should be the enough or equivalent. Can anyone give me an insight to how this works?
Also asking this because if I have no chance because of the prerequisites I'll accept it, but if I meet the requirements my horrible interview performance will forever haunt me. Getting a stomach bug is no fun TAT
Well I'll help as best I can -
SACE is the Year 12 equivalent in South Australia (SACE = SA Certificate of Education) like HSC.
So I believe from what you've mentioned you've met the Year 12 prerequisites with Chemistry and Physics.
For your uni subjects you might need to contact someone from the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences to double check if they'll accept your completed courses. We have a few Optometry students from Flinders (so still an SA University but not UoA) in my year so it should be alright?
Thank you! I did try to call them but left in line for a few hours and I lost patience and hung up and also emailed, nothing so far. tbh i think I panicked a bit too late. Best thing is to wait at this point in time.
With admissions just around the corner I'd expected they be pretty busy. Offers come out for most people tomorrow yes?
And there will be (from what I've heard) multiple rounds of supplementary offers as well
Who knows? You may be worrying for nothing like I'm sure most of us do
Yeh I know
I think the fact that some people are getting early offers is what's freaking me out. They're probably international students or people who have already graduated from uni.
Saw this and just thought I would add to the information... I applied for Adelaide Dent (I was in Year 12 in 2017, so am just a "regular" school leaver applicant) and received an early offer 2 days after my ATAR came out (21st of Dec). I'm neither an international student nor a uni student. However, from what I've heard from people who know the application process pretty well, it shouldn't be anything to worry about - according to someone I know in Dent, it's to get people who have med as their first preference (like myself) to change Dent to be their first preference and accept that instead. Can also confirm I've known people who've gotten offers for med/dent the day before the degree actually starts... Adelaide has quite a few rounds after the 16th!
Best of luck for tomorrow guys
Oh very interesting....and a very smart tactic...
What was the 2018 cutoff for Adelaide Dentistry?
I believe UMAT, ATAR, and interview are all involved in the selection process, so it depends what you mean by 'cut-off'.
