Chance of getting into UQ dent

Hi everyone,

I am an international student who is planning to apply for UQ dent this year. I am not sure if my academic and ISAT results are high enough to get me into UQ dent. My estimated ATAR is about 98-99. However, since I am doing specialist math, I can get 2 bonus points. I just got my ISAT results back, I get 176 (73%) for section 1, 185 (88%) for section 2 and 181 (84%) overall (The results are far better than what I was expecting ). I know that the cut-off ISAT results are 176 for each section, however, if there are lots of candidates with good ISAT results, I might not stand a chance to get into. Could anyone please tell that whether what is my chance of getting into UQ dent with my results?

Thanks a lot ^_^

Depends on what the candidature for this year is like, as you said. It appears that you're just on the cutoff for Section 1 so you might have a chance, but traditionally cutoffs tend to rise with each year. Hard to say! But I would say that you have a decent chance :)

I would say you have a chance, but as before, it depends on everyone else. Let us know how you go!

Thanks mighty, do you know when this year's cut-off will be out? I hope the cut-off will not go up this year.

Thanks miss-universe, do you know whether UQ have a over-supply of international dent students or not?

I don't think so as it is not a topic which is is coming up in the news.

We can';t say as the application process hasn't gone through (you wont know until they have sent out all the offers). It would be in the 99s ATAR though

I am not that worried about my ATAR., because as long as the ATAR is above 99 (97 in my case), UQ will only use ISAT results to rank candidates. I am quite worry about my ISAT results. As mighty said above, my result for section 1 is just on last year's cut-off. I could not get into UQ dent, if there is a slight increase in the minimium cut-off .

True, but thats the situation with a lot of people. Just try your best in whatever you can but always be prepared if you dont get an offer.

Why don't you apply for UAdel then aswell? That would be close to the score you need for UAdel dent as well, wouldn't it?
Failing that, you could also apply to La Trobe (not sure if they take internationals or not), or CSU, Griffith or JCU. Neither of these unis use ISAT (AFAIK - but confirm this by looking at the dentistry information pages here: Undergraduate Dentistry Universities - Med Students Online

I have applied for UAdel and I am going to sit PQA in about two weeks. Btw, do international students need 99+ to get into BDS? Last year, a guy from my school got into UAdel with an ATAR of 95.

Is this for UQ or UADEL? For UADEL, local students are advised they need an ATAR of at least 90. It may be the same for international students.

I mean UAdel. I think 90 ATAR is too low for dent.

Well 90 is the official cut off. Of course the people who get in usually have 97 or higher, but it doesnt mean someone with 90 ATAR, a Good UMAt score and did well in the interview doesn't have a good chance at a spot.

Thanks miss_universe. Hopefully PQA will not let me down.

I do not want to not apply for Griffith since I have to put it as my first preference in QTAC. As for CSU and JCU, I barely have any dent work experience, so I think that I might not get in. La Trobe does not accept international applications. I think the only options I have are UAdel and UQ.

I didn't think you had to put Griffith as your first preference in order to get an offer. I think this was an old rule but I remember calling about it last year and I'm pretty sure they said that you don't have to put them as your first preference in order to get an offer.

As for CSU and JCU, this is the first year they're taking in international students. Personally I think that this would mean that not many people would apply, and so you have a decent chance at getting in. Regardless of how much work experience you have done, applying won't hurt and giving yourself as many chances as you can to get into dentistry is better than no chance at all! :)

Nup sorry. I believe they take all students with 5.8gpa and OP1 then grade them by UMAT. You can email them just to double check but Im pretty sure its like that.
