I got an offer to Monash this morning and so I was wondering what my chances would be like in getting on campus accomodation?
have you applied to monash for accommodation before today? if not, I'm afraid I think your chances are very slim

Unfortunately accomm on campus is pretty much full with huge waiting lists. I'd recommend looking at places like flat mates to find nearby off campus accommodation

Yeah didn't have much hope in the first places, Flatmates is probably my best option. Still very keen to move out though. Thanks heaps guys!

Congratulations on your offer Carrot! Also, there still is a chance with on-campus location as people sometimes cancel their offers. Try Mannix and definetly contact Monash off campus accomodation at this link.

you could also check out berwick accomodation if you want to live on campus. It's pretty easy to transfer from there on. Good luck!
I think Berwick might be a bit too far and it has also closed at the end of 2017. I know many students who live off campus like a ten min walk. You can get in touch if you join the group attached in my ‘occupation’.

Hi everyone. I recently applied for on-campus accomodation at the urban community halls and was unfortunately not accepted for the first round. The email I received did however say that I am on the list to be considered for the second round of offers which will come out on the 21st of Jan 2019.

However, I recently got some emails saying that I have to submit some income declaration forms and documents to be considered for NRAS studios. Can I be considered for NRAS studios even though I'm an international student? Also, if I were to not send in the documents, would I still be considered for the second round of offers in January?

Sorry if this is really confusing! I'm quite confused as well :(:(:(

From my understanding, international students also qualify for NRAS (as specified on the ANU website: "To be eligible you must be a domestic or international student whose annual income (in Australian dollars) is below the following limits:...". I couldn't find any info for Monash but I'm assuming since it's under the same scheme, it would cover international students too. (You might want to confirm this however.) The only requirement then would be an annual income below the household limit.

If you didn't send in the documents, you should still be eligible for your first preference accommodation providing it doesn't fall under NRAS.

Hello there!
UC halls have limited places and are quite competitive to get into so a 2nd round offer is unlikely.
NRAS is available to international students and you are required to complete some forms and send in some information that indicates you do not have an income of more than approx. 50k. If you submit your forms, UC halls will be your first preference but if you do not there is the risk of not receiving an accommodation offer at all, but there still is off-campus accommodation available. NRAS accommodation is also pretty similar to UC halls.

I see! Thank you so much for the replies, much appreciation! If I don't apply for the NRAS scheme this time around, can I still apply for on-campus accomodation for the 2nd semester?

Also, would not living on-campus make it harder to make friends for international students? Though I will be joining clubs and societies, I really don't want to miss out on too much as a 1st year haha.

P.S: Is Mannix College worth the $$? Sorry for having so many questions:oops:.

Yes, you can apply for on-campus accommodation next sem. Living on campus makes it easier to make friends but there are still many opportunities to make friends such as by joining clubs. Mannix College is quite expensive but are catered.

Mannix is still actively looking to fill their med student quota so you might wanna contact them. Super pricey and cliquey I hear, however.

I live about 1.5 hours away from Monash via PTV so I am gonna just suffer for the first semester. For second semester I’ll either move in with a mate or take on campus accomodation as I have applied for this.

Hey I dont think there's much hope for on campus accom this time of the year, but would anyone be able to guide me on the popular options amongst med students? Any other options available for student accomodation other than the ones listed on the website, and going with flatmates? And just in case on campus doesn't work out, where can I look at finding flatmates who are also in med? Do you think living off campus will limit opportunities to socialise?

Most med students either share house or live on-campus. If you want to live on-campus there is still the option of receiving a late accomodation offer or you can move in in semester 2.

If you want to share house, you can check places like MUMUS Common room or MUMUS Marketplace as very often people advertise for flatmates there.

Hey umatsitter,
If it's important to you I could add you to the MUMUS Marketplace if you PM your details. I will also give you my details as collateral haha. Peninsula campus probably is not a good option as it is quite far. MUMUS common room is also an option to consider for searching for accomodation.

hi,
I am a bit confused about accomodation for medicine/biomedicine courses at Monash Clayton campus
I am not really a social person and would like a quiet environment without the drinking and party culture
I was looking at the on campus options including Mannix College
I want to go for cheap options so I ruled out Mannix immediately
The halls and the urban apartments are really good options
I was wondering which halls would be a good option to apply for and if someone is living in the South East flats could review them please
Also if I would like to live together with my friends in one of these halls how would I go about it
Do we fill the application at the same time?
How long are the waiting lists
how much of a budget are we looking for meals and groceries so I can have a rough idea

Also would anyone recommend off campus accomodation ?
How much more cheaper is it because you have the added cost of electricity/water bills
Also how do we go about renting one as me and most of my friends will be recent high school graduates with barely any jobs or previous rental history

cheers

Hi geek,

Mannix is quite a party hall. The 'old halls' or residential villages are quite social but I would recommend that experience for first year. The 'new halls' are UC + Jackomos et Briggs and are a lot less social. If you want to live together with friends you can apply for the same halls but if you both live on-campus essentially you'll be able to see each other regularly.

Yes there are applications for halls.

The waiting times are reasonably long so recommend applying early but there is a deposit.

Can't talk about off campus accom much but I think a downside is the social aspect.

Off campus accom would be cheaper even with added costs but potentially will be a hassle organizing fridges, wifi, power etc.

Contacting the university about off campus options would be the best.

All the best

Hi, I am thinking of applying to the on campus accommodation in monash uni clayton campus for entry in 2020. I have a few questions and would really be thankful if any of you could answer them.

  1. Is it hard to get a place in the halls if I apply now? I heard there can be long waiting lists, and what are my chances now?
  2. Do the coed showers in the residential halls have doors with locks or just a curtain?
  3. What are the pros/cons of each of the halls in the residential village and urban community? Any info would be appreciated! e.g regarding room quality, bathroom quality, internet, party scene, location, people, atmosphere, activities, etc.
  4. Which hall has the greatest percentage of med students?
If you guys can answer what you know, id be really grateful!!

Hi Meddie,

1. Apply soon as it will only get harder with waiting lists.

2. Yes I believe. Some bathrooms and toilets are divided between sex.

3.Residential village- pros - cheap, more social
cons- share toilet, shower, fridge, kitchen- it also is further away from campus - old.

Urban community pros- own toilet, shower, fridge , kitchen
cons- more expensive and can be less social

Internet is all similar.

4. Not sure really but all halls have a few. IMO making friends outside of medicine is a lot harder than inside so don't be too worried about it.

Hi guys, I'm in a bit of a mess with accommodation as it turns out. I had no idea that I would get an interview for Monash med and alas have one. I was just starting my application and it says that applications for 2020-sem 1 have closed. It would be kinda sorta really ideal for me to live on campus as I think making friends with people outside of med would be super important and am really worried that if I stay off campus i'll find it to be less social and more isolating. WHAT DO I DO??? I cannot believe that the applications have already closed for the residential village and urban community... I'm going to be homeless.
