ah thank god i'm not going insane, i even redownloaded a new version to make sure I had the correct document. Switching it up last minute is a great way for the uni to make sure ppl end up confused by conflicting info :/ I still might call UoA tmr to triple check which one it is just incase
Now I know why the one you read was different to the one I read:) They have changed again!

Yh, even in my confirmation email about my interview, it mentions that my interview runs for only 1/2 an hour, as per the length of the Zoom call. So I would think that means they won't be doing 6 stations with 10 minutes each, but as is being speculated so far, looks like it will change to a normal panel type interview.

For a dentistry MMI, can we expect questions similar to a med MMI? And would it be good to do a thorough research about the school because I don't know how I could integrate that information in while responding to scenarios?

Yeah, definitely do this. It's very easy for one of the questions in a multiple question scenario to be a personal one about your motivations/reasoning. Tbh you should be doing thorough research for ANY uni, not because it's going to be asked in the interview, but because it's a pretty big decision to make. Don't you at least wanna know what a course offers before committing ~5 years to it?

Oh yes I definitely have looked into the unis but not for the purposes of interviews. Also I didn't realise they could ask about the motivations in the multiple question scenario so I'll be weary of that!

So bit of a weird situation here: back when I did my UAC application I put CSU dentistry as last preference just seeing what will happen. I’ve had my heart set on med for the past year and a half, about to finish my Physiotherapy degree this year. Just yesterday I received an interview offer for CSU dentistry and was kinda shocked! I got a 2840 UCAT and have a 6.3 GPA (non rural). I’d never seriously considered dentistry previous to this moment, but I can see many things I’d like about it (fine motor skill, function and aesthetic based work etc). I’m thinking I’ll sit the interview anyway, cause either way it’s good practice for med, but I guess I’ll give it a serious consideration if I get an offer?
Thoughts?

I have also been in the same boat previously where I also started and still consider dentistry as it's a great profession IMO. If you're exploring the field, I would highly recommend shadowing or talking to a dentist and asking them about the profession because it provides a great insight into what they do everyday (it can be quite different to what we expect) and what the logistics of the field are. But without a doubt, give it your best at the interview because you never know!

That's interesting that you got an interview when it was your last preference - many are hypothesising that invites are based on preferences and that to get an invite for CSU dent when it's your last preference would require a very high UCAT score. There are many people with extremely high scores that haven't heard anything yet. I guess it must not be preference based then!

Anyway, I absolutely agree that it's best to sit it anyway even if it's just practice for potential med interviews. Plus, an interview doesn't commit you to doing the degree so there's really no risk; you can just consider your options further if you get an offer. However, if you're sure there's no way you would ever do dentistry then there wouldn't be much point in doing the interview, and rejecting it might give an interview spot to someone else who really wants it.

Does anyone know how the UQ dent admission is calculated?
Is there a UCAT cutoff?
Is the ATAR just a hurdle (if so, how high is the ATAR required) or does the ATAR combine with the UCAT for an offer?
Thanks :))

I believe if it's the same as previous years, then offers are made solely from UCAT (as there is no interview). The median ATAR was around 99.2, iirc, so definitely aim for a 99+ ATAR (but I'll let someone else input more information)

Does anyone here know how SATAC converts your GPA to a SR? I called them up but they couldn't give me an answer. Currently on a 6.5 not sure if that's competitive for UAdel Dent

Is it unique to dentistry that dentists generally tend to see immediate results post treatment? Or is that prevalent in other health professions as well?

Not really, other oral health professions tend to do simpler procedures. Arguably, they see results faster because it takes less time to do simple procedures. What differentiates dentists (including specialists) and other dental professions is their ability to perform complex procedures such as pulp therapies, RCTs, biopsies, apexogensis, bone grafting, implants, flap surgery, tissue regeneration, orthodontics, gingivectomy, dental prosthetics, conscious sedation and etc.

Hey Peeps,

hoping someone can help me with this. I’m starting a stand-alone honours next year and finishing the same year. Is it possible to apply for 2023 Dent or Med using honours scores? Someone told me that for med it’s not possible and they use your bachelors instead because you need a completed honours for the score to be utilised, thus would need to apply for 2024 med. is this true? And if so, does it also apply to dentistry (this is my main goal).
Thanks
P.S. I also have the option to complete a 1.5 year masters. So if the above is true it makes sense to do this since it’s much more employable than an honours and would result in a 2024 application anyways.

There are undergraduate and postgraduate dent courses. Which one are you talking about? When will you get the results for your honours?

For postgraduate courses, you need a bachelor's degree.
For undergraduate dent, I think most dent schools allow you to apply using your honours. But it's better to contact the uni directly.

Hi, I will be applying for both as I'll also be sitting the UCAT.

I know that for Melb uni dent, honours is fine. I finally received word that half-year results from honours will be used since applications end prior to semester 2 commencement. Unfortuantely medicine needs a complete honours to be used.

I was thinking I do a masters of public health at UniSyd next year as it'll finish mid-year of 2023 commencing next year. This would make me employable in the field if things go south, unfortunately I've only received a FFP though. Not sure if I stick to doing honours which is 1 year and CSP or masters which is 1.5 years and Full FEE

hi! does anyone know if you had to sit an interview for la trobe university - their dental science (honours) course? I looked up their requirements, and there is no mention of an interview, only ATAR, and subject prerequisites.
