It's only an option for some courses like Pharmacy or Radiation therapy. You'll have to talk to the Health Sciences Course Advice Office (it's in the physiotherapist building) for more information.

    hi guys,

can someone explain to me how the UMAT is marked. I know that section 1 and 2 is multiplied by 0.45 and added and section 3 is multiplied by 0.1 and the sum is therefore multiplied by 0.33
but my actual question is how many marks are there in each section and therefore overall in the UMAT exam?

    cheers

    so if your HSFY average is say 70% = 70 x 0.67 = 46.9 ranking
does that mean you have to get 100% in the UMAT exam (33 ranking) in order to make it into med?
    46.9 + 33 = roughly 80 ranking which usually guarantees a place in med ?

    Hi there,

You can have 300 points in total, 100 in each section. Have you seen my graphs on the rank scores? The minimum cutoff has been above 80. That will not guarantee a place from the past data.

You should aim for about 90+ average and over 85-90%ile in Section 1 for a good chance (in general).

im assuming some questions are worth more than 1 mark because 300 questions each weighted at 1 mark seems too much for an exam

    Hi,

This is an area many have tried to crack. They don't actually release the procedures, but each question can be worth one, but the total can be "different" if you apply series of analysis and standardisations.

Just wondering if the usual dentistry umat cut-off scores for getting an interview were 50/50/50 raw as I have heard a few different things? Also is there any data on the usual rural score cut-off scores? Just wondering how much they differ from the minimum cut off scores recorded for direct entry into medicine though FYHS? Thanks heaps :)

Last year it was 43/43/43/. I thought it always sat between 40-45?
Does anyone know what the highest cutoff has been from previous years?

hey people studying for bioc… it may be that I am simple but I am stuck on a few multichoices if anyone wants to help! The title above these questions says state the incorrect statement - but perhaps this only refers to the first question below and not these two. This is on page 10 by the way

    Select the incorrect statement
    An enzyme catalysed reaction:
    A. releases more energy than the equivalent uncatalysed reaction.
    B. has a lower activation energy than the equivalent uncatalysed reaction.
    C. can only proceed in one direction.
    D. increases the rate of reaction by bringing the energy of the products closer to the energy of reactants (substrates)

I think A in incorrect, B is correct, and both C and D are incorrect.

    also

    An enzyme:
    A. forms only covalent substrate-enzyme intermediates to catalyse the production of product.
    B. typically produces multiple different products from each substrate.
    C. catalyses reactions by reducing the change in Gibbs free energy for the reaction.
    D. can form either covalent or non-covalent interactions with a substrate.

I think A is incorrect, B is incorrect, C is incorrect, and D is correct

You're right with both questions! Make sure you know why those are the answers (but I figure you probably do know) :) Good luck for the BIOC test!

Hey, I was wondering if any one else's application for med looks like this: upload_2018-9-12_12-39-27.png

    and for dent like this
    upload_2018-9-12_12-40-49.png

Just thought its strange that nothing has like a tick, even for stuff like UMAT ID.

Would appreciate it if anyone can confirm its like this for them too.

is that the one where you eat a bunch of food and then measure glucose?

Update: it was the one before you eat food and prick your finger 90 times.
    - the blood cholesterol one

But nothing special, it's just a lack of recourses that made this lab extra long

It doesn't. Med doesn't have a second year entry category, and although dentistry used to, my understanding is that it got canned recently.

The actual marking of the exam is really only academically interesting, it's not that helpful from an applicant's point of view. It isn't just marked out of how many questions you got right - not everyone gets the same questions, so they have to employ statistical wizardry to create scores.
