  • Submit the names and details of 2 clinical referees who can comment on your ability, capacity/motivation and rapport/cooperation.
  • The 2 referees will then be emailed a referee report to fill out within 2 weeks and email back to the QLD Intern Recruitment Campaign (IRC). As the student you do not see the referee report but its your responsibility to inform your referees that they will be sent a report to fill out and your responsibility to check that they send it in before the deadline. You will be sent an email from the QLD IRC confirming when your referees have submitted their applications correctly.
Questions: if you are P2-P8 you have to complete 3 questions regarding why you want to work in QLD and your future career goals. The questions are short (max 500-1000 CHARACTERS each)

After applications closed:
From an interstate applicant perspective (P3 applicant): QLD run a unique system where you can see in real time how many positions are available at each hospital, how many P1 applicants have applied for each hospital and how many P2-P8 have applied for each hospital. This gives you an indication about how many hospitals will be available post P1 first round offers.
After P1 first round offers, P2-8s are sent an email stating which hospitals had been filled by P1s and were not being offered. In 2010 this left 6 hospitals and we were asked to reorganize our preferences based on those 6 hospitals, within 2 days. From Aug 4 onwards, these hospitals rang up with their offer based on the merit of your application.

From an interstate applicant perspective: first round offers are released to priority group 1. Interstate applicants are eligible for second round offers which came out as an email on Aug 4 (around lunchtime) and you were given until Aug 10 to accept or decline your offer.
Be aware that under the SA system you are only given one offer- that means you can’t wait for 2nd/3rd/etc round offers like in other states. Also offers are not based on grades or your CV- it is a random computer allocation based on your preferences and what's available.

After applications closed:
From a local Tasmanian applicant: first round offers were emailed out at 5pm on July 19- applications are based on the merits of your answers to the selection criteria, referees and your CV. Offers were valid until July 30. Formal contracts with rotation preferences were emailed out on Aug 5 and had to be completed by the Aug 13. If you didn’t receive a first round offer- the official word was that second round offers would come out on Aug 4. However what actually happened was that as first rounders declined their offers from July 19 onwards, the next people on the list were rung up with an offer. Those not offered a first round offer are ranked and put on a list- either the first reserve or the second reserve list.

Sorry for the late reply.

Was there a similar priority group system for Tasmania?
