JMP JMP: MD-JMP Outline

Hey there,

Sure, we've actually spent most of this year online due to COVID restrictions. But we still have 1 in-person class/OSCE every 3 weeks (which requires us to be on campus). Aside from that, all the other classes are online. This usually consists of PBL on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, covering the Open, Middle and Close sessions, respectively. Anatomy/histology are on Mondays, all the sciences (e.g. pharmacology, physiology, anatomy, biochemistry, etc.) are on Tuesdays, Ethics is on Wednesdays, Clinical skills is on Thursdays and Fridays sometimes have patient-centred forums (where a patient and clinician come in and talk for a couple of hours about their experiences). The same format was followed back when we were in-person earlier this year. Hope this helps!
I know this was a while ago but are clinical skills at callaghan or John Hunter or Mater? Thankssss

whats the clinical experience/placement like for first years at uon or une? is there like a full day a week, and is it at the hospital, uni or a practice? or is a stretch of time you have placement, or both?

and pbl groups, do you change much to meet new people or do you just stick in the same groups

Clin placements for 1st years haven't run for the last couple of year due to COVID but it's only a couple of days in an aged care or community facility. 2nd year you'll get a few days at a GP practice. Placements really begin in 3rd year.

PBL groups are changed every semester, but (and this is UNE perspective) you interact with the entire cohort quite a bit. You should know just about everyone in your year within the first few months.

This isn’t quite correct. Clinical placements for first years ran this year at the central coast campus. Newcastle campus didn’t run placements and likely won’t next year either as compliance needs to be up to date for the entire cohort at whichever campus you are at before they can organise it (this is what our lead campus educator told us) and Newcastle has triple the people so triple the issues. It was not anything significant (1 day a fortnight in the hospital on a different ward/team where your sole role was to observe). These placements were not mandatory. One week I was on the geriatrics ward at gosfrod hospital and two weeks later I was in a vascular surgery theatre watching a below the knee amputation (you likely will not get anywhere near as lucky with this procedure wise as I know several third years who haven’t seen anything like this as of yet).
