Medicine in Germany

Hey I'm interested in doing med in Germany next year. I have an ATAR of 95. I was told that due to university outreach I should apply regardless of my grades due to INTL qouatas which would give me a solid chance. Is this true or would I need much higher to be competitive?

I would worry more about getting a job after you finish. Most AU states only guarantee a PGY1 post to people who have graduated in-that state (somebody can correct me on the specifics) and with the UK supposedly leaving the EU that's going to be a huge problem too.

The answer MSO generally gives to this question is "if you want to spend a decade or more away from home becoming a full qualified or nearly fully qualified specialist overseas to enable your return then go for it ... but, beware."

What is the med study cost in Germany? It seems their system is quite different to Australia's, so have to be careful.

Re: UK - that is going to be a mess for some time; already NHS is going through a lot of changes - not for the positive from what my sources tel me!!!

I haven't looked into this in detail in a few years but there are a few things you need to be aware of:

• It is highly unlikely you will be able to study in Germany & return to Australia to work without significant difficulty. You will be considered an international medical graduate & will have to sit the Australian Medical Council exams before being able to work in Australia, similarly I would be surprised if they accepted fellowship training from Germany as equivocal in Australia but I certainly haven't looked into it.
• Courses are all in German & require you to have demonstrated german language proficiency
• There are no scholarships that I am aware of for foreign students studying in Germany, though the course cost is relatively low/similar to Australia CSP in most cases.

What is the med study cost in Germany? It seems their system is quite different to Australia's, so have to be careful.

I heard that it is free even for foreigners!
But of course you must be fluent in German to study there.
