hey guys just wondering if anyone has any experience with on campus accommodation at monash this year. has anyone accepted an accommodation offer and if so, when was the deposit due by? i've just received an offer for accommodation but am an interstate applicant and so obviously haven't interviewed yet and don't really want to spend the money and then not actually go there

also is anyone else not able to download the offer pack? is says there should be link but it is nonexistent when i go to look

    Hello Coker,

Definetly ring MRS administration and see what they come up with. I am an oncampus student and faced a similar dilemma to yours. I asked if they could hold my place on the waiting list as I didn’t want to lose the deposit if I wasn’t successful.

Regarding your deposit question and dead offer pack link ring MRS admin.

Don’t hesitate to PM if you have any other concerns and hopefully I’ll see you this year around campus.

In the email I received about my accomodation offer it said that there was an offer pack that I had to download with all the paperwork in it from the MRS portal

coker are you looking on a computer? The pack wouldn't load when I used my phone, but did on my laptop. Also would recommend checking if you have a PDF reader. :) The deposit due date should be the same as the acceptance date specified in the email unless you get special provision (which may be tricky considering the length of the waiting list for some accommodation)
Edit: if you still haven't been able to access it, I'm happy to send through an email with a copy

Yes I have been trying on a computer, there is just no link on the page, if you could email it to me that would be fantastic, thank you

The email is similar to that, however it then asks me to log into the MRS portal and shows me my offer and says "Your offer pack is now available for download via the link provided below", expect there is no link. I think this may just be a technical error on Monash's part and will call them tomorrow to hopefully get it fixed.

It’s not unreasonable to believe MRS has made a mistake. They have had problems with the accomodation portal before.

I got an offer to Monash this morning and so I was wondering what my chances would be like in getting on campus accomodation?

Unfortunately accomm on campus is pretty much full with huge waiting lists. I'd recommend looking at places like flat mates to find nearby off campus accommodation

Yeah didn't have much hope in the first places, Flatmates is probably my best option. Still very keen to move out though. Thanks heaps guys!

Congratulations on your offer Carrot! Also, there still is a chance with on-campus location as people sometimes cancel their offers. Try Mannix and definetly contact Monash off campus accomodation at this link.

I think Berwick might be a bit too far and it has also closed at the end of 2017. I know many students who live off campus like a ten min walk. You can get in touch if you join the group attached in my ‘occupation’.

Hi everyone. I recently applied for on-campus accomodation at the urban community halls and was unfortunately not accepted for the first round. The email I received did however say that I am on the list to be considered for the second round of offers which will come out on the 21st of Jan 2019.

However, I recently got some emails saying that I have to submit some income declaration forms and documents to be considered for NRAS studios. Can I be considered for NRAS studios even though I'm an international student? Also, if I were to not send in the documents, would I still be considered for the second round of offers in January?

Sorry if this is really confusing! I'm quite confused as well :(:(:(

From my understanding, international students also qualify for NRAS (as specified on the ANU website: "To be eligible you must be a domestic or international student whose annual income (in Australian dollars) is below the following limits:...". I couldn't find any info for Monash but I'm assuming since it's under the same scheme, it would cover international students too. (You might want to confirm this however.) The only requirement then would be an annual income below the household limit.

If you didn't send in the documents, you should still be eligible for your first preference accommodation providing it doesn't fall under NRAS.

    Hello there!
UC halls have limited places and are quite competitive to get into so a 2nd round offer is unlikely.
NRAS is available to international students and you are required to complete some forms and send in some information that indicates you do not have an income of more than approx. 50k. If you submit your forms, UC halls will be your first preference but if you do not there is the risk of not receiving an accommodation offer at all, but there still is off-campus accommodation available. NRAS accommodation is also pretty similar to UC halls.

I see! Thank you so much for the replies, much appreciation! If I don't apply for the NRAS scheme this time around, can I still apply for on-campus accomodation for the 2nd semester?

Also, would not living on-campus make it harder to make friends for international students? Though I will be joining clubs and societies, I really don't want to miss out on too much as a 1st year haha.

P.S: Is Mannix College worth the $$? Sorry for having so many questions:oops:.

Yes, you can apply for on-campus accommodation next sem. Living on campus makes it easier to make friends but there are still many opportunities to make friends such as by joining clubs. Mannix College is quite expensive but are catered.
