Hey everyone, year 12 test taker here. Thanks to everyone on MSO for their help, cause there's some really great information here! Also thanks to the original maker of this template.

I started off guessing random answers for SJT to finish quickly, then started taking it seriously in later mocks. PLEASE dont take your scores from mock 17 onwards to heart. VR and AR raw scores are morale killers. it was a downwards spiral that I only got myself out of by doing official mocks, which are much closer to the real thing.
Actual UCAT
Subtest | Score |
VR | 830 |
DM | 880 |
QR | 900 |
AR | 860 |
Total Score | 3470 |
Situational Judgement | 736 |
Official Mocks:
| VR ( /44) | DM (/38) | QR (/36) | AR ( /55) | SJ ( /69) |
A | 35 | 35 | 22 | 46 | 49 |
B | 40 | 36 | 33 | 38 | I forgot |
C | 34 | 34 | 29 | 38 | 42 |
D | 40 | 34 | 31 | 49 | I forgot |
I just thought I would reiterate the general consensus on this thread: QR IS SO HARD in the official mocks, more so in mock A. Dont take them seriously, The rest of the sections match difficulty and general content in the real thing, they are the most valuable resources.
For VR, I always read the passage first and then answered questions. I used to read a lot when I was younger, and naturally read fast. This was probably the most valuable skill. Read a few wikipedia articles each day quickly, and try to retain key information. That might help. I tried key word methods to see whether they suited me, but the large number of inference questions makes them VERY ineffective.
For DM, I didn't use the whiteboard apart from the logic puzzles. Doing a table (dont actually waste time drawing table lines, just put information in general rows and columns) helps a lot for the logic puzzles. Syllogisms I found were easier to do in my head, but I am not a visual thinker at all, so your mileage may vary. Drawing diagrams could be useful.
For QR, the calculator is much more responsive than the official practice one. Dont really have much to say, just practice metal maths I guess?
For AR, this was my most challenging section. Do the official UCAT practice banks and resources, and you should quickly start seeing improvements. Theres only a limited number of variables in a small box with shapes and symbols.
I believe it's clear that Pearson (or whoever created the UCAT) wants you to not walk in completely new to the test format, cause they wouldn't have the free resources on their website if they did. Looking back at my test scores and mock scores, I dont really see any consistent improvement across my mocks. I generally felt I wasn't getting much better while doing 41+ full mocks, it was pretty consistent. Therefore, while they can be useful, I dont think paid resources are strictly necessary. The official resources should be your main preparation, supplemented by the other resources. Mock D is the most representative overall.
I think one of the most important things is to relax before your test. Spend the day before doing what you enjoy, and maybe go for a walk around the streets of the testing centre before your test.
