Applying for:
Medicine
Application Type: Non-standard
Predicted ATAR/GPA: 99.05 (2016), 5.5-5.7 GPA (71 WAM)
UCAT Percentile Rank: 91
VR: 560
DM: 680
QR: 900
AR: 720
Total: 2860
SJ: 712
Current State: NSW
Applying to:
JMP, WSU, UNSW
Rural Applicant: no
GWS Applicant: yes
Indigenous Applicant: no
Other: EAS
Specific Question:
-Will EAS/SJT score help my case with getting a UNSW interview?

-WSU/JMP likelihood

Given the additional information from Smelly Boy re. EAS/SCATS, I'd think UNSW is unlikely for interview (though obviously still include it in your UAC application, just in case!).

Good luck with WSU and JMP.

Applying to:
All universities that take non-standards
Rural Applicant: No
GWS Applicant: No
Indigenous Applicant: No

Specific Question: Any chances at any med/dent uni?

For Med, I think you'd really only be looking at JMP (unless your degree is completed, then you could also throw an application Curtin's way). It would also be worthwhile completing JCU's application form.

I'll leave Dent to Yamster.

Applying for: Medicine
Application Type: School Leaver
Predicted ATAR/GPA: 99.55 (Hopefully will be able to get it up to a 99.7 by the end of the year)
UCAT Percentile Rank: 93 (10 off a 94th)

Applying to: all universities except uh - Bond$$
Rural Applicant: no
GWS Applicant: I don't think so?
Indigenous Applicant: no
Other: N/A
Specific Question: How does GWS work? I lived in GWS for about 6 years during primary school then I moved around and eventually landed in Perth. Am I right to say that I'm not eligible for GWS? Also, what are my chances for all the universities, particularly UWA/Curtin/Monash/UNSW/WSU/UQ/UAdel?

WSU says GWS is only for applicants *currently* living in the area.
I'm optimistic you will get at least UQ bonded. You should get interviews with most schools except WSU & Monash are only maybes.
Chances for place offer are 20% Adelaide, 30-40% the rest (btw had I given you estimates before, were they totally different haha?)

UCAT Percentile Rank: 97

Rural Applicant: Yes, RA2, MM2
GWS Applicant: No
Indigenous Applicant: No
Other: Broadway
Specific Question:

1. How well (roughly) would I need to answer the interview to get an offer for the UWA DMD? What would you rate my chances overall of getting a place?
2. Do I basically have a spot at UQ Dental science, assuming I pass english? (And UQ MD, UTas MBBS?)
3. Similarly for UWA MD, and Curtin MBBS, how would you rate my chances, would I still get in with a mediocre interview?

Re: UTAS. This is an unknown this year because I've heard rumours that they've removed the written application from the RAP (or, at least, the questions that used to form the basis of your selection rank). We currently have no idea how they'll use your rural application, and there are no guarantees of anything, sorry.

Good luck!

I've seen A1 and LMG! both denote that 88th percentile should be enough for an interview for JMP & WSU although I'm worried that with say a 18k test base, there are still 1260 people finishing higher then me for a possible 750 JMP interviews and (idk how many) WSU spots.

Being my 5th year trying all i want is to get an interview but even just considering what i said above, it seems a stretch :/

88th should be enough for interview at JMP (unless they do something very different this year, which I've also stated), but I doubt 88th "should" be enough for WSU without GWS status. It would be a scrape in at best, I'd think, but again, UCAT-use could complicate things, so no guarantees either way.

ETA: Yep, I've just looked through the information provided so far this afternoon and there are none where A1 or I have said someone with 88th%ile "should" get an interview, so not sure where that impression has come from. For a non-GWS applicant, historically, the requirements were around 95th%ile, though it's more difficult to predict this year due to the introduction of UCAT and not a whole heap of certainty around how it will be used.

Hey just a question: do I interpret a 70% chance as meaning I can do a 30%ile interview (approx.) & still get in?

Not scientifically proved but sort of like that.

Like someone with 10% chance would need a near top interview to make up. Or one goes into JMP with 25% chance they need to be in the top quarter (75+%ile) interview to get a place offer.

Would you think 93rd would be good enough for WSU as a not GSW - I'm not sure how many people that take for interviews.

Historically, non-GWS needed ~95% as I just mentioned above, but that was complicated by the way they used UMAT and how that may differ for UCAT. WSU interview three times as many people as they have places on offer.

What do you mean by this?

JMP interviews 700ish applicants for 170 places, so roughly 1 in 4 (25% chance) is successful.
Place offers there are ranked wholly on the interview so you need to be in the top quarter (75+%ile) of interviewees for a place.

Applying for: Medicine

Predicted ATAR/GPA: Hopefully 99 (99.95 with SEAS adjustments)
UCAT Percentile Rank: 97 (off by 10 from 98 xd)

DM: 770
QR: 830
AR: 770
Total: 3050
SJ: 638
Current State: Victoria
Applying to: Monash (preferably), UNSW, UQ, Adelaide, Flinders, UTAS
Rural Applicant: No
GWS Applicant: No
Indigenous Applicant: No
Other: SEAS/EAS/UES, Monash Guarantee
Specific Question:
1) Interview and offer chance?
2) How well would I have to perform in the interview for a safe shot at an offer (interview percentile)?

REPLY from LMG! : I've seen a few people post "off by X" amount from another percentile rank. Just to confirm for everyone, Universities use raw scores, not percentile ranks, so it really doesn't matter (except, maybe, for 3 minutes of bragging rights ;) )

Yes for Flinders and UQ provisional entry (assuming you get the 99 for UQ)
Yes for a Monash, UNSW, UAdel interview.
UTAS is the great unknown.

Good luck!

A1's note: Sorry for the merge. It was a quick question post then LMG! turned it into a full reply as I did the merge.

I think you only ever gave me estimates for UQ which you pretty much say UQ bonded as well. The others I hadn't really gotten answer so this is all new. Thanks!

Rural Applicant: (no)
GWS Applicant: (no)

Specific Question: All my questions are going to be based upon Uni Adelaide
1). For Uadel, the UCAT is the gatekeeping mechanism right? So if a candidate does not pass the threshold then there is no chance for interview?
2). What are my chances of Uadel?
3). Where would I need to place in interviews to have a chance at an offer? (Uadel)

I'm not a mod but I'd say you have stand a very good chance at UWA if you don't mess up the interview. I know of a couple of people that didn't do very well in UMAT and didn't clear a 99 ATAR but because they were from Broadway, they got in. You have incredible scores and that combined with Broadway imo gives you a very good chance.
