UoA Graduate Category Chat/Enquiry

Hi all,
According to the guidelines for graduate entry into the professional programmes at both UoA and uoo, I need to complete my degree in the ‘minimum academic time.’ However, midway through my degree I transferred to another degree at another university. This means that I won’t be able to complete a bachelors in the 3 years it normally takes, as not all of my papers were able to be cross-credited. I have been studying full-time btw. Does this mean that I am ineligible for the graduate category? Kinda getting spooked because of this, and would appreciate any sort of clarification from someone that may have been in the same boat as me before? Thanks.

Try contacting both unis and asking them about it. A mate of mine did the same so took 4 years to complete his Bachelor's but is in med at Otago now via graduate category no sub categories.

I had a similar issue wayy back when i applied. Auckland said a hard no while otago was fine (took 4 years for 3 year degree because i did a year study abroad). But best to just contact each uni individually.

Hello,

I Completed BSC Hons last year and didn't cut 2024 applications. I was thinking of doing a Postgraduate certificate in medical technology, does anyone know if that counts as a qualifying program or not?

The PGdip in medical technology is 2 years part-time course and I am not sure if i want to wait 3 years before I can apply again. any advice

It has to be a PGDip (or higher). Be aware that completing your PGDip part-time is also grounds for ineligibility as you did not complete your degree in the minimum academic time (i.e., full-time study)

Hi, I saw that this year and last year the interview cut off for grads was 6. I was unsure about how the interview cut off is determined - is it based on your optimal GPA (e.g. if ur optimal GPA is 6 u would have got an interview) or your current GPA (e.g. if ur current GPA excluding the papers for your optimal GPA is 6). If my GPA is below 6 at the moment (5.875) and I want to apply for an interview (don't worry I know I won't actually get into the programme) does anyone know if I would get an interview or not?

They assign you an interim GPA which is the highest possible. Depends on what your predicted GPA would be. If it would be above 6 and that's the cut-off then yeah for sure

Hi all, am I correct in thinking that UoA converts SJT from a band into a numerical value to add towards your total UCAT score? I see online some UK university’s do not and I thought I would clarify while prepping for the exam. Thanks in advance!

Hey guys, I am planning to study a PGDip in health science this year, starting second sem to try to get into med. My background is pharmacy and would like to know if anyone has any recommendations on paper selections. And for those who have completed the diploma and/or got into med, how did y'all maintain your GPA (any tips would be great!!). Thank you!! :)

kia ora team, does anyone know if you can withdraw app after you get your UCAT result and still use the same qualifying programme next year?
GPA is looking good so far but worried about not getting a good enough UCAT score. If I crash and burn UCAT, can I withdraw rather than getting declined and then try again next year with another UCAT? anyone heard of this? thanking you

I have the same question!

I actually have no idea, and this is an interesting question. I know my friend at UoO was able to use her undergrad grades when applying for med even after her completing her honours because she hadn't applied with the undergrad grades yet. I'm not sure if that's maybe just UoO though? I would try contacting UoA student services to confirm?

will let you know if i find the answer elsewhere :)

yeah, cos i think you get your ucat grades back really quick right, e.g. before you've interviewed etc, so it kind of makes sense to me that they might allow you to withdraw but yeah would def need to have them confirm that. was just wondering if it was a known thing, seems like maybe not

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering how the GPA for graduate entry is calculated into medicine for UoA entry. Ive heard somethings about it involving the CGPA for the last two years of study, but also have heard it is the entire degree CGPA?

Any clarification would be much appreciated (Also I am from UoO, and am completing my BSc this year)
Cheers :)

Also was wondering if anyone has gone through this similar experience or knows anyone who has, when applying to medicine at UoA:

Year 1: A student completes semester 1 of a BASci and does not pursue it any further. They completed no study in semester 2.

Year 2: The student begins health science first-year programme and is pursuing a Bachelor of Biomedical Science with no past papers from the BASci transferring over.

Year 3-4: The student completes all degree requirements for the Bachelor of Biomedical Science from papers taken in years 2-4.

Will the student have completed the Bachelor of Biomedical Science degree in the ‘minimum academic timeframe’, and will the BASci study be included in the timeframe if no papers from that programme are transferred to the BBiomedSci?

Also I have proof on why I could not study any further in S2 Year 1.

Cheers :)

If I were you, I'd apply. UCAT means so little its insignificant. I know people with a UCAT score of 2200 (excluding SJ score) that got in.
