Could someone explain how the exams are structured for MAOR102? Does plussage apply? How many progress tests? Labs? tutorials? Are the exams just essays? if so, what kind of essays
I'm not much of an essay person but I didn't really enjoy stats sections in Hubs191 so I'm considering maori over stats.
Would highly appreciate if someone could comment
Gooday, I did MAOR102 last year and was probably the easiest paper I will ever do in uni. I was in a similar position to you deciding whether to do MAOR or STATS and I'm glad I did MAOR as the stats part in HUBS wasn't my strong suite. Just a heads up, the previous year (2020) stitched my cohort up last year saying the exam was easy therefore last year the exam people for the paper made it "harder". I think the only difference was that they just made it more content heavy and not necessarily concept heavy. I dont know how it will be for your cohort this year.
The whole exam is MCQ's. I recommend you get the book they offer you (I think it's Tikanga something). The book is about Maori principles and history.
YOU HAVE TO READ THE BOOK. I know the POPH paper have readings in it and you may get tired of reading this sem but I kid you not, the whole exam MCQ's are based around this book. IMHO, even if you forgo the lectures and tutorials you can still get 100% in this paper.
Plussage does not apply for this paper. There are no labs for this paper but there are tutorials. I recommend you attend the tutorials as there are quizzes (5 questions) at the end of the tutorials that account for 0.5% of your grade. If I remember correctly you can only get 15% or 10% from these tutorials and once you get that mark you don't have to attend anymore tutorials meaning more study time. The marks at the end of the tutorials are pretty much handed to you (the tutor legit just gives you the answers for the questions). IMHO again, the tutorials for me are not really helpful as the tutorials just grease over the lectures. After I got my max grade for the tutorials I dipped But DW if you miss a tutorial there's like a 4-6 tutorial buffer.
There is one assignment you are given that is an essay but it's not as strenuous as the POPH one. You are given a choice from 3-4 questions and just pick one. You are allowed one draft copy that your tutor marks for you before your final submission. For me the questions given last year were pretty funky and the lecturers were pretty helpful in decoding what the question I chose asked.
