UQ UQ Dentistry: Admissions General Discussion

Yeah, I also don't see the point of giving subject bonus to school leavers when those subjects have already being scaled up.
The core issue here is the 4 bonus rank points were mainly to help them into Rank 99 (hurdle for med, a tier level for dent), then selection was predominantly on UCAT/UMAT.

Now that they make Selection Rank the predominant decider, 4 ATAR Rank points for selection are waaayyy too generous. Even SATAC's generous 5 UES points only add 2.0-2.5 to ATAR, and then it only counts 40% for Adelaide vs practically 100% for UQ Dent.

I just realised that it puts school leavers who don't do specialist maths and Lote at an even greater disadvantage. NSLs need a GPA of 7 and there are people who do get 7 GPA. But school leavers who don't do maths and lote need a 99.95 raw ATAR........this is just absurd

The program rules say something about getting a cpr and first aid certificate. Do we need to have these already or are they given after we start the program through the university?

Need to get them prior to the beginning of clinic. Should be plenty of info in the onboarding file on the uq dentistry site :)

Thank you! Also does anyone know about the email they sent about summer week 9 and 10 activities? Is that for existing students?

Thank you! Also one more qs (i have a lot of qs srry :)) how do we complete the academic integrity tutorial. the link on the pre-commencement guide takes me to a deleted page.

Does anyone know about the equipment kits? It says you need to buy by the 15th of Jan. but we only got the offers on the 14th and was told we didnt even have to enrol until the 29th. I only found out about the pre-commencement guide after enrolling. Is there a way to get the things needed now?

Hello! I'm studying at Griffith for Dent atm and I want to change to Dent at UQ. If I get in, will I be able to be counted as a second year student so that I only need to study 4 more years instead of 5?

UQ definitely accept RPL for Dentistry, but I’m not sure whether they would credit you a whole year. You’d have to apply and see what happened.

The situation of UQ dent at the moment is that non school leavers need GPA 7 to be qualified for further consideration on UCAT.

You will be able to get credit for the courses which are general units like the biology or chemistry or public health courses, but I doubt that UQ will give credit for its year one DENT courses, considering the Griffith and UQ dent courses are structured differently. But it wouldn't hurt trying

Jeez that's extremely competitive...that pretty much rules out any non-standards without a perfect GPA from applying unless they do a whole new degree 5 years later or somehow not get a cumulative GPA (from UQ anyways) ...because any GPA lower than a 7 even 6.9 will not = 7 with a new year of GPA 7. Does a GPA 7 from a non Group of 8 university still equal 99.95 or it is lower as it is not a Group of 8 university?

This is like the reversed version of Griffith dent (pre-2022). At least for 2020-2021 intakes, the school leavers have subject bonus points therefore easier to get adjusted rank of 99.95 but non school leavers have to get GPA 7 without bonus. In addition, this year's UCAT cutoff was record high (compared to the past years). Literally most of the non school leaver applicants were ruled out. On a contrary, Griffith dent was in favour to the non school leavers.

Hi, I’m an international student. Can someone please enlighten me on the procedure and my chances of applying for UQ dent? Do I need to take the UCAT? Do I apply in the second round and go through interviews only?

From my knowledge, as an international student if you are going for a FFP position, then you do not have to sit the ucat, you just apply with you entrance score and then there is an interview (I think), may have changed though. Hope this helps :)
