Entry into Podiatry

Podiatry is a branch of medicine devoted to the study, diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle and lower leg.

Education and training

The first 2 years of this program focus on anatomy, medical chemistry, biochemistry, physiology and patient psychology. The next two years will then be spent on podiatric biomechanics, podiatric orthopaedics pharmacology, general medicine, general pathology, local and general anaesthesia and surgical techniques. Podiatrists wishing to pursue specialisation in podiatric surgery must complete a four year degree with the Australian College of Podiatric Surgeons.


There are two pathways to Podiatry in Australia:

Undergraduate degree: 3-4 years Full Time
Postgraduate degree: 2 years Full Time

In order to apply you must have one of the three options:

School leaver: Completed secondary education with either OP/ENTER/ATAR/UAI/RANK/TER
Non standard: Completed atleast one year of full time tertiary study
Graduate: Completed a tertiary degree

Certain universities have certain subject requirements. Make sure you have fufilled this criteria or you may not be considered for a place.
