This is an email I received in the past from oztrekk regarding dental schools in Australia. Hopefully It will answer your questions. Best of luck to you!
University of Melbourne: No minimum GPA or DAT requirements. Applicants are ranked based on their weighted GPA from their most recently completed undergraduate degree (50%) and their DAT scores (50%). They use a 3-2-1 GPA weighting, meaning your final year will be worth half of your wGPA (x3), your second-to-final year will be worth a third of your wGPA (x2) and your third-to-final year will be worth a sixth of your wGPA. They determine these “years” based on the standard full course-load in your degree, rather than by actual semesters, so if you studied part-time, summer semesters, etc, the university would consider these equally with courses taken during normal semesters when calculating your wGPA. Based on previous intakes, the starting point of a competitive application may be a wGPA of 3.5/4.0 (80%+) and a DAT average of 19+
University of Sydney: A minimum cGPA of 5.0/7 on the Sydney GPA scale (roughly equivalent to a 2.7/4) from any bachelor’s degree completed within the past 10 years. A minimum score of 15 is required on all DAT subsections for results to be considered. Applicants are ranked first on DAT scores for interview eligibility, and finally based on interview outcome (50%) and DAT scores (50%) -- not based on GPA. Based on previous intakes, the DAT cut-off for interview eligibility has been a DAT average of 19-20.
Only DAT scores from January 2014 and onward can be assessed for the 2017 intake due to the 3-year validity timeframe from the program start date. The manual dexterity section of the DAT is considered by Melbourne if it was completed, but not held against a student if it was not, and for Sydney the section is ignored altogether.
5 Year Programs
Griffith University: A cGPA of 6.5/7.0 (~3.67/4.0) is required in order to meet the minimum entry requirement, depending on how GPA from your university is converted to their 7.0 scale. Admissions are done on a rolling basis, and so if you meet the GPA requirement and there is still space within the program, you may expect to receive an offer within about 6-8 weeks of applying.
James Cook University: A minimum cGPA of 80% is required in order to be eligible to apply. A cGPA of 82%+ (3.5+/4.0) together with strong reference letters and answers on the extended application form have been the starting point of a competitive application in previous intakes. JCU is our most competitive dental school, with far more applicants who meet or exceed requirements than spaces for international students in the program (up to 12 each year).
University of Queensland: A minimum cGPA of ~3.67/4.0 is required in order for applicants to be eligible to apply, depending on how GPA from your university is converted to their 7.0 scale. Also requires the ISAT with a minimum required score which varies by intake, but is typically a 170-175 overall score.
