Post Grad if your 45?

I got question,
My father has 2 Master Degrees, if he wants to do medicine , is their a shortcut ex 2 years? If so how?

He is Australia resident etc , lived here 20 years.

Thank you for your time

Undergraduate medical degrees are 5-6 years and graduate medical degrees are 4 years. Aside from graduate degrees being shorter than undergraduate degrees there is no other 'shortcut'. Indeed, I think it would be impossible to complete medicine in less than 4 years (I've heard of it happening in the US, but that's a very different system).

Your father's master degrees are irrelevant to the duration of a degree in medicine.

People usually say that age shouldnt matter but if u are 45 by the time u finish and specialise it could take another 10-12 years and by that time your coming close to retirement age. If you are really passionate about doing medicine by all means go for it but keep in mind that medicine requires many years of training.

i heard of a lady who graduated from MBBS when she was 90

It will be 8-10 years before he becomes a GP and probably won't become a registrar until his 6th or 7th year. Unless he wants to become a career / locum resident medical officer... though that is not the ideal life for a middle-aged gentleman.

But why would you put yourself through 4 years of university debt to start with a 50-60k salary? Those who put themselves through the hard slog of FRACP or FRACS etc... have 30+ years of consultancy at the end of the tunnel, your father does not.

Unless he was doing it out of interest, I would advise against it for a career. And if so, there are only limited post-graduate options. People entering medicine RARELY know what it is like on the other side unless they have family/close friends in the same field... and even then they often don't understand!

When I graduate from Med school I will be 25.5 years old! This seems really old before I even get my first decent pay check. I'm really worried that all my colleagues in internship will be years younger than me and I'll be the odd one out. What is the average age that people graduate from med school?

That's around the average for an undergrad school, maybe even a little below.

Well if you've wanted to complete a medicine degree and are currently in the process of doing so, would it really matter? The average age under what category? School-leaver? Post-grad? It all varies. At the end of the day, age is just a number. Just my $0.02. :)

So What? Ill be 27.
Its not really a big deal. People are STARTING a medical degree at 30+. Compared to your entire medical career which may be as long as 40 years, one or two years really wont make a difference. ^_^

Hey there old-timer. If your mad skills are good enough to keep up with the content without wetting yourself due to your incontinence then I say you are doing a "jive" job (thats what epic old-timers say right?). Keep on keeping on gramps. :p

That's young :) I will be 23 when I graduate as a Dentist. And we have students who are in their mid 20's who just started 1st year dentistry.

25, old? are you kidding me? How old are you now?

Well I'm 19 now, turning 20 in June. I dunno it's cause like people who do like the 5 year degrees get out when they're 23/24 and I'll be 25.. I know it's one or two years but it seems like a lot for me now :(

And yeah i'm thinking it might be an issue cause like wouldn't you be looking to get married at around at least 30, so would like 4 years experience as a doctor have me at a good place around that age? Or should I not even be thinking of that kind of stuff right now?

I will be 35... admittedly I have had a whole career before coming back to study... and whilst I am the oldest person in my cohort... I know people even older than me at other unis...
