Flinders Flinders Medicine: Provisional Entry General Discussion

Hi,
The Flinders Uni website says requirement of minimum 95 ATAR with 90% ATAR and 10% UMAT weightage - is this realistic? What have been the cutoffs in previous years?

I have an ATAR of 96.95 and UMAT score of 80 percentile (43/60/66), what are my chances of getting undergraduate medicine or provisional entry medicine at Flinders?
Sorry to say but that is just the minimum in order to be considered. Due to the main weighting being ATAR and a small 10% on UMAT (with absolutely no interview) the actual ATAR required becomes quite inflated. In previous years it has been around 99.85+ which unfortunately means that your 96.95 will not be enough. Best of luck :)

Any chance 99.80 will make the cut like with Griffith?

Little chance for Flinders if it goes like previous years. I had 99.80/100%ile with 30 S1+S2 raw marks advantage over one 99.85 who got an offer and I didn't. Despite the 90-10 formula I still haven't figured out why 0.05 ATAR outweighed 30 UMAT marks.

(Btw Griffith's 99.7-99.8 cutoffs are due to twice the number of place offers and they don't take ATAR bonuses like SATAC/Flinders).

Wow that is very surprising. Did you get an Adelaide offer with those numbers? I’m very much holding out hope for Adelaide although I’m concerned my ATAR will not be able to make up for a less than spectacular UMAT and interview. I guess I might just have to settle for Griffith.

First round offers I got neither Adelaide nor Flinders, then second round I got Adelaide bonded.

I received a similar email, except mine only mentioned Adelaide University and not Flinders University (even though I preferenced that). Does that mean that you're only eligible for rural entry for whatever uni was your first pref (mine was Adelaide)??

Yeah I got the email as well for uadel not Flinders. Kinda worried now. Also when do Flinders offers come out

The confirmation for flinders was released today, I called them and was talking about something else but the SATAC representative mentioned it.

Hi, how are bonded places given in the Flinders provisional med course? Is it like Griffith, where students compete for unbonded places?

No, I believe Flinders allocate whether you’re an unbonded place with your offer like other medical schools.

ETA: I seem to recall hearing that potentially all provisional places are unbonded and the bonded places come from the graduate entry. So it’s possibly not something you have to worry about.

I am genuinly confused. In satac it says "eligible for consideration" for flinders medicine. However, i am a first year student in Uni Adelaide. Shouldnt it say ineligible?

Could someone who's knowledgeable on the matter please explain to me what happens if I don't get my first preference (UAdel) during tomorrow's January SATAC round?
I'm 99% sure I'll get my second preference, which is Flinders. If I enroll in the course, can I expect to receive any further correspondence for UAdel? A phone call for a top-up? A second round offer?

From how I understand it, if you get your second preference (Flinders) then you will be waiting on a top up offer from UADEL for med. They will continue sending these out on a rolling basis all the way up until early March I think. So just as long as you drop out of Flinders before the census date, you shouldn't have any problems enrolling at UADEL.

Yes, MD didn't get Adelaide first or second round so enrolled Flinders and was at O-week there when Adelaide called her to come over.

You may be able to see your Flinders offer now.

Thanks for the replies - will it be done exclusively through phone calls or are there any official SATAC offer rounds which Adelaide participates in (for med top-ups)?
