JCU JCU Medicine: Non-Standard Entry

anyone heard of people not getting med interview but getting into dent??? thought my application was okay/good and my gpa is 6.4 so was kinda upset when I didn't get an email.
Depends - I’d say if you focused on dentistry in your applications rather than medicine then this would increase your chances.

Also since there isn't any interview; although your written component is weighted higher, so is your GPA so since you have quite a good gpa that would help balance it out. Also many people only apply for med and not for both so the pool of competition is probably less competitive for dent vs med so maintain hopeful!

does anyone know how written apps are assessed? is it pass fail or is it rated out of 100 e.g 75%
It definitely isn’t pass fail, so it must be a ranked score. I don’t know what the total score is but I guess it doesn’t matter too much besides the fact that it’s scored!

also does anyone elses preference heading stating course name have red writing saying closed
e.g Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery - full-time (Closed)
That just means you can’t add it to your preferences anymore. Everyone would have that.

hi guys, for your entry requirements does everyones say satisfied? also when you click on more information what subheadings do you guys see? (for some courses I've applied for I see prerequisite and Institution Admission Rules satisfied, but for other two there is an additional subheading OP/Rank Requirement satisfied)

what courses do u see the op/rank satisfied option for? doesn't show up in mine

Hi, just wondering if JCU calls again before 24th Jan offer round ? Just received a missed call from no caller Id so was just checking.
Thanks :)
No I haven't heard of them making phone calls before second round offers. If the missed call was from JCU, they would have left a message. I missed my call from JCU for first round offers and they left a message with the offer.

Ahh okay no worries.

Hi everyone,

I am considering applying for JCU Med in 2021. I am a JCU Dent graduate and have been working as a dentist at a public hospital for a couple of years now. I have been living in rural QLD for more than 10 years. My overall GPA for my BDS degree was 5.8. I’m just wondering whether this would be competitive enough to apply and get accepted? Or should I just look into graduate entry medicine? Thanks guys 😊

It's worth an application and has been enough for some (but very few) non-standard applicants in the past. It would depend on your rurality index (i.e. RA-5 has a much better chance than RA-2) and you'd need a high quality written application and interview to be in with a chance, though certainly your background sounds like it lends itself to a strong application. Best of luck :)

Hey guys, just needing a bit of advice. I'm in my 4th year of my 5 year degree (3 years bachelor + 2 years masters) and wondering if deferring is a good option. My rationale behind it is that the masters degree is really hard and its a known fact that it takes a toll on your GPA. I've heard that JCU takes your last full year of study - which in my case is third year but unsure if this GPA is even okay? I got 4DNs + 3HDs (1DN being a 9 unit topic) so i think that puts me at a 6.37. Just unsure whether my chances are slim either way.

Given that we know JCU only has 10-15 places for non-standards, deferring is not something that I would do for the sole reason that I may be one of those 10-15 people to be offered a place, because it is ridiculously competitive. Work as hard as you can and try not to think too much about masters being inherently harder and do the best you can. You've made it this far which means you've picked up skills along the way to be able to deal with the challenges of your course at the pointy end. Good luck.

Do we know which year of study they take? This years masters or 3rd year bachelors? Or even the overall GPA from the bachelors?

I was hoping someone could tell me my chances of entry into JCU. I have completed Physio with a GPA of 6.1 and apart from the 5yrs at uni have lived in rural locations my whole life, including now working as a physio.

Is it worth applying in August or am i wasting my time?
Hi
Did you apply to JCU . Did you get any interview offers.
Cheers

Hi guys,

I have seen that a minimum suggested GPA of 6.2 is necessary to be a chance of scoring an interview. Is this the absolute lowest GPA you have seen/heard of for non-rural, non-standard applicants to JCU's MBBS programme? I am a physiotherapist practising in very remote NT. My GPA is unfortunately 6.04 (after a few clashes with clinical supervisors during placements), I attained a 98.00 ATAR, and I'd say my written component would be relatively strong.

Would it be naive to apply, or do you believe there may be a chance with this GPA?

I appreciate your time. Thanks guys, J.

If you're currently working (and living?) in very remote NT, could you be considered a rural applicant?
