Also I thought Inception was brilliant in all parts except the Snow Base fight which just seemed to drag on and on. The ending was perfect for me and any other way to end it would have done a disservice to the film.

Ok, so got back from seeing Thor a little while ago, thought I'd give my thoughts. There is a spoiler alert but I'll try not to give away any plot points.

[Box=Spoiler alert]I liked it. As someone who wishes he had more time to read comics though, I was probably always going to like it. I think it was definitely a movie with a purpose though, many more Avengers references (make sure you stay to the end) so we're definitely gearing up to that movie. Chris Hemsworth did a decent job at acting the part, in fact, for someone who's only background acting is Home and Away, I thought he did very well. I would have liked more background knowledge on the Frost Giants and the Asguardians, more development of the Thor/Loki relationship, more character development on the whole really, but I'm aware that's not really practical for a Hollywood blockbuster..... maybe this just a sign I need to get back into reading comics.

I quite enjoyed Loki as a character, very glad he'll be a part of coming movies. Perhaps the chief bad-guy for the avengers? I feel like the Avengers was always going to have to have bad guys from some other realm given the scope of the movie (aint no regular mafia thug gonna cut it against a team of superheroes) and someone like Loki might fit the part..... but, in that case, it's a shame there wasn't more character development on his part in lead up to the Avengers movie. Natalie Portman's character was completely irrelevant.... but this is often the fate of the damsel in distress within superhero movies. Anyway, I'm off to trawl the internets to find out about all the Marvel references I missed. [/box]

I watched Fast Five too and while it was definitely good, full of action and explosions. I would have preferred more racing, more emphasis on the cars. Watching beautiful cars drift is just amazing .

Ahhh I enjoyed it too, but I dunno. Certainly wasn't the best comic based movie I've seen. I was really struggling to understand what was going on at times and there were quite a few plot holes, but as you said, it IS supposed to be a build up to The Avengers (and The Avengers 2, The Avengers 3, The Avengers 4, etc Samuel L Jackson signed on to NINE movies as Nick Fury). I've actually read a lot about all of these comic book superheroes after watching the movies, maybe I should delve a little into the actual comics.

Also Matt, have you seen the trailers for Captain America (nice little reference to it at the end of Thor) and X-Men: First Class? Really looking forward to X-men, looked pretty awesome. The Green Lantern doesn't look too bad either.

You have no idea, I'm a massive superhero nerd except that I'm not because I don't seem to find time during uni... I'm so glad the superhero movie saga has continued on into this decade though. It's days like today, after watching Thor, when I wonder why I'm not spending my days working in comic-book store so I have money to buy more comics like some of my friends.

I agree with you though, when it comes to superhero movies, Thor wasn't fantastic. I definitely wasn't blown away by it like I was with say Ironman 1. I'm so looking forward to X-men first class though, the X-men are my superheroes of choice and, while I don't think the previous films were as bad as the critics said, I think they could have been done a lot better. I really hope the Xavier and Magneto storyline is done well. Captain America should be good, hopefully it's good standalone and not just a prequel for the Avengers. Boy will those movies need to be good though, how much money must they cost!?

I haven't been keeping up with Spiderman much to be honest, I'm not as big on Spidey as I am the other superheroes. I think a re-make is not a terrible idea, I wasn't very impressed with any of the Spiderman movies, and I don't think Tobey Macguire was ever a fantastic spiderman.

I think Spiderman is a very difficult story to tell because Peter Parker is a fairly complicated character (as far as superheroes go, at least) and he's not meant to have the 'tank' factor like Thor, or the Hulk, or Ironman. So the movie can't and shouldn't rely on special effects (but of course must have them). I'll be very interested to see the first one (sequels are inevitable) and how they lay the story's foundations out. A dark spiderman is a bit of worry I think, they really need to invest in the character more if they do that, it should be almost more like a Harry Potter movie (i.e. where there are awesome special effects but you still judge the movie on its character portrayal and even relationship protrayal - unlike most superhero movies which are made on chase scenes and big explosions).

I saw Thor last Thursday in 3D. I liked it too It was awesome. I found it really funny - but that was probably because of my friend who was laughing really loudly for most of the movie. I thought it would be less funny/more action but it was pretty good.
