yea that's what i thought now I just have to somehow convince my parents of that. Hopefully i can handle doing a friday night and saturday over foundation year like i did in year 12 and then just work over the holidays and then quit for HSFY.
Then I'll have some money. Don't know whether to borrow living costs when applying for my student loan. Don't know if its worth it. It's like an extra 6000 dollars a year if i do.

Job and HSFY don't mix.

That isn't necessarily true. I mean working a part time job is perfectly okay in my mind. You need to have good time management and a job that would be flexible enough when you have tests and exams coming up. I mean it wouldn't be easy but any sort of multitasking is difficult.

This thread has freaked me out a bit  I was planning to enjoy my summer holidays and I really can't see myself studying during them but now i'm worried! Would anyone know how well CIE prepares you for hsfy? I've taken A level chem and A level bio but only AS physics. Most people here seem to have taken NCEA but if you happen to know, please share ^_^

Purely hearsay, but I generally get the feeling CIE prepares you far better for HSFY than NCEA.

People are always raving about how the CIE kids have it easy since they've covered heaps of the martial especially for chem/bio (lucky you then).

But, at the end of the day- as long as you have a sound basis to work with, be it the product of NCEA or CIE, then really you haven't much to worry about, since you're taught everything anyway. It's all about the work you put in next year that counts.

I know of people who didn't do particularly well in year 13 and excelled in HSFY because they pulled they socks up and actually did some work.

I'd go ahead with the relax plan if I were you :]

I don't think you should think about it too much.

Cambridge vs NCEA

If you work hard enough, it'll all be irrelevant next year. Remember you all get the same resources, the same lecturers next year. There are no excuses, you can't blame your failures on your high school teachers/ curriculum. Just work through each test one at a time and make sure you study enough for each subject. If you think about how much others are studying/ how others are more advantaged because they do IB or Cambridge then you'll never be in the right mind to do well.

92. don't really know what to think lol but reasonably happy because it could have been way worse!!!

eughhh the rest are taking so long i just want to get bioc over with!!!

That's what I got in epi (last year) and I was happy with it... if the mark distribution is anything like last year you'll find that very few people get an A+

All results have to be confirmed by monday, so you'll probably get hubs and bioc tomorrow.

ahh thank you!! :) thats exciting then i shall glue myself to the computer :P nearer and nearer to health sci closure :P

oh wow the epi department is so harsh with their evil marking!

good luck silentregrets!! i wish they weren't putting up bioc last ... i'm most nervous about it!!!
yikes i wonder if 90 average and 95 umat will be enough!??

That will defiantly be more than enough. Refer to the chart that greenglacier made with regards to cut off for the 2009 HSFY cohort. Best of luck with the rest of your results!

You think so? Haha I just don't feel safe banking on my UMAT so much but time will tell I guess! I ended up with 91 average in the end which is not that good for health scis but I'm pleased because I never actually came to dunedin expecting to get anywhere near med standards.

Good luck to all the other health scis out there - hope you get the marks you wanted!!

And thanks so much for everyone who posts on here you guys are seriously so inspiring and its nice to know a bit more about what's going on

You may feel that your 91% average is unimpressive when compared to some of the people in this thread but just note that people with ridiculous grades are more likely to post their grades. Also note that people who go on MSO regularly are probably more motivated and more likely to succeed. I know that this is all anecdotal but none the less your average is very impressive and your Umat is outstanding. You should now enjoy the rest of the holidays and be proud on conquering HSFY.

Yep, 91 average and 95th percentile UMAT would have got you in quite comfortably last year.

On that note, if anyone does want to know what their chances are based on last year's cutoff, feel free to send me a private message if you don't feel comfortable posting your marks/UMAT here.

Well done to everyone though on getting through HSFY! As gtr8 said, just try to enjoy the next month of holidays before offers come out.

On a slightly different note we where told that the number of med students may go up by 20 next year does any one knows if it has been approved by the government or are they still waiting for confirmation?

would calculated ranking score of 82ish cut the mark?

Provided you've calculated the ranking score correctly, then that is almost certainly good enough for med. The cutoff for direct entry (i.e. not off the waiting list) was in the region of 77.2-77.5 last year.

Provided there are 20 extra places for med next year,
any idea about by how much will the cut off lowered?
Congratz for those who got good results and good luck for the rest of you!
Hard work will eventually pay off! (y)
