well, considering the umat application fee is like $200 or so (don't know exact amount) it'll be worth forking up another $35 for more practice. (in any case, $35 for more 'official' practise for your (possibly) last shot at umat is worth it?)

Does anyone know if it's worthwhile ordering the offical UMAT prep stuff from ACER?
I'd say yep. The first one (the free one) is pretty easy, but the second one (in 2011) was pretty close to the actual UMAT difficulty-wise in my opinion.
By the way, because I know one of you will ask eventually, I went ahead and found these two threads on what marks are considered 'good' on the ACER books (disclaimer: performance in the ACER tests=/=how you'll do. I'm just putting these links here for you to play around with your marks and obsess/rejoice :p )
What marks should I be getting in UMAT practice papers?
Questions from the ACER books (scroll down to the 8th post on this page, and the ones following it).

Personally I found the practice material almost entirely useless, aside from learning the general style and format of the questions / exam.

I did sections 1&2 of last year's second book (the one you pay extra for) and recognised questions from the actual UMAT in 2008 and 2009.

So - $35AUD for a set of questions which are either from UMAT or very similar to ones from UMAT... seems like a worthwhile investment to me!

Cheers for the replies guys, I'll go ahead and get them tomorrow :)

Also, was nice to have an actual lecture with some new & interesting stuff, HUBs is great!

There's so much stuff for hubs, wow! It was pretty cool today to finally have a whole bunch of new info, but also a really tiring 50mins of note taking... I missed a bit because it was hard to concentrate on slides + talking, do you think most of what he was saying that wasn't on the slides was really important?

The way I did it was to just jot down really quick notes using abbreviations then as soon as I got home rewrite the notes in a more formal form. This way you can concentrate on what he is saying + get some notes down. The guy beside me had like 3 whole written pages of notes! There's just no need to write down every little detail - e.g just to copy the slides word for word, waste of time IMO.

i think combined, we would have managed to get most/all of the important stuff he said today, so if you are worried, just post what you have/what you think you missed out and we'll see if we can fill any gaps! (yy)

Would you mind linking the page group cause im on dialup right now and each MSO page takes about 5 min to load (with a 33-50% of the load failing) x.x

Heyya... Someone from the members actually needs to add you to the group... Sorry so even if I did link you wouldn't be able to get on it... What I will do however is link the MSO equivalent page (I.e. where it all started out) and you can add someone from there... Alternatively, you can pm me your fb... And I'll add you (I would give you mine but I'm kind of unsearchable so no point lol) and then add you to the group... Same applies to the other person who wanted to know :) link: https://www.medstudentsonline.com.au/groups/hsfy-2012-super-fantastic-study-buddies/

lol I thought I was the only one being overwhelmed b the sudden info overload... I kept phasing out trying to understand what he said and then ended up missing bits of the lecture! But tbh hermafish I think I do remember some things that he might have mentioned that seemed important to me... But saying that... I didn't do biology at school so I probably have a ginormous bubble of "important stuff" since most of the basics are completely new to me... Anyway... I think you should check the podcast just to be on the safe side...

Yeah, I'll check the podcast when I can to make sure everything's ok, at least now I know its probably easier to note things the lecturer says over what's on the slides when they're going fast, since I can look at the slides anytime. Hehe i think it just came as a shock cos the other lectures thus far have either been stuff i knew or not very fast

Hey guys I thought I'll join in on all this fun :) how was everyones day?

Not too bad! 8am-5pm is a bit rough, especially with 4-5 hours between classes with little to nothing to do.

How about you?

I thought my day was okay haha..... then again I only had two classes from 3-4 and 5-6. So I slept until 1 :) If it makes you feel better I have 8am-1pm on Friday non stop lab/lectures

Lucky bastard. I was talking to someone who had like 8hrs nonstop the other day, felt bad for him haha.

Haha there's quite a few people I know like that... I feel I'm the lucky one :) Did you find the Hubs lecture fine?

Yeah HUBs was fine. I'm having a little bit of difficulty with the homework question (Isosmotic vs Isotonic), hopefully they'll clear that up tomorrow..
