Otago MBChB Class of 2029

I was wondering if there are things we need to buy before the year starts (textbooks etc)? Also would it be better to revise the contents from HSFY before starting?
Textbooks are expensive - might be worth to try before you buy, either through the uni library, or from an 'alternative' source if you know how.

Definitely don't spend time revising HSFY content - there is not a huge amount of overlap of content, and the content that does overlap will be taught again. Take some time to relax after what is probably one of the tougher years of the degree. Unlike HSFY where you had so much pressure to know everything and compete against everyone else in the cohort, there isn't the same competitiveness or need to learn everything in med.

Thank you!!! I’ve also heard you need to buy a stethoscope but is this true?

Yes you will need a stethoscope, at least by the time you start the cardio module (this used to be about half way through the first semester but may or may not have changed). The med student association may organise a bulk buy which might be slightly cheaper.

has anyones course been approved by the uni for med? or are they doing it late jan
I've been approved for everything now too. Took a while for uni to 'declare' my intention to study (or something like that) for StudyLink to then recognise I'm a student and approve my application.
