Going by UQ's use of UMAT previously there won't be any section weightings. For 4U maths you get 2 Rank points added to your Selection rank, which is roughly the integer part of your ATAR.

Btw note how UQ says to be eligible you need OP1/Rank 99, not ATAR 99.0+
Thank you A1. So if ATAR what would be the hurdle if not 99? and the bonus points for 4U maths would be added automatically or is there form to be submitted?

Sorry if this is too early to ask, but is 3000 on the UCAT (with pretty low STJ 695) good enough for an unbounded place at UQ medicine? Do UQ have multiple offer round and when do they release the offers? Thanks

I can't comment on your chances, but I'm wondering why you consider 695 a 'low' SJT score. Personally, I'd be quite happy with that!

I though so too but the STJ seems to be quite a low percentile when I calculated it using the normal distribution calculator.

iirc it comes out to somewhere ~92%tile. But then again, remember that SJT is not normally distributed, so those calculators aren't as accurate as they may be for the overall UCAT score

This UQ webpage > Subject Incentive Scheme
says you don't need to apply for the Maths C/4U bonus, QTAC will take care of it. I suggest you call QTAC in November to double check.

I don't understand the first part of your question. Basically if you get ATAR 97.x it gives you Rank 97, plus the 2 bonus Rank points is Rank 99 to meet UQ requirement.

3000 is around 97%ile UCAT = 98%ile in UMAT terms. Unbonded places have required 95-96th UMAT %ile so it's a safe bet you will get one if you meet the OP1/Rank 99.

Iirc UQ releases offers early January (google QTAC first round offers to confirm) and usually UQ Med does only one offer round.

I'm sorry if this isn't the right place to post (it's about EAS) and might get a little personal but I really need some advice and I'm not sure who to talk to.

So the situation. For the last 2, maybe 3 years, my grandma has suffered from lung cancer before passing away earlier this year. I don't know all the medical details as it's hard for my mother to talk about. This is why I haven't raised this up with her. I used to be really close with my grandma when I was younger but as I've gotten older, I've seen her less and less as she lives overseas.

Now the problem. I think I may qualify for EAS but if I do, should I even apply? Applying feels almost exploitative, as if I have something to gain or benefit from this situation. I also feel guilty since this has affected other members of my family more than me.

That's it, thank you for taking the time to read this.

Thanks A1, why would the percentile for UCAT increase by 1 when compared to UMAT tho?

I'm filling out the SATAC application and it's asking for my UCAT identification number. Is that the UCAT ANZ ID or the Registration ID? Both are on the score report.
Thanks for any help!

Does anyone know when curtin releases their first round offers? Is it possible to do the old 'bait and switch' where you get your first round offer from lets say UWA (if it releases first), then switch curtin to be above UWA and get a second offer when curtin releases their offers? Am I completely misunderstanding how these offer rounds work and they all release on the same date - same time, so you can't switch your preferences to maximise your offers like that?

According to this info sheet > https://www.tisc.edu.au/static-fixed/download/tiscguide.pdf

there will be a Dec round of offers on 23rd and a Jan round on 16th. I'm fairly certain both UWA & Curtin will take part in these TISC rounds/dates although UWA has a habit of calling in advance to congratulate you on the upcoming offer.

Jan 8th is the last day you can re-arrange prefs for the Jan 16th offers.

EtA: Be warned that TISC is different to other TACs on this pref swap. Say you receive a 1st pref offer for UWA in Dec, then you swap Curtin to 1st and get Curtin in Jan. If/when that happens TISC automatically withdraw your UWA offer (since it's no longer 1st pref). With other TACs both offers remain valid for you to choose.

Wow I did not know that. Thanks for saving me from making a potentially huge mistake! So just to clarify - you cannot get two first round offers at any of the TACs? Because all offers in any given round are given on the same date? And TISC is the only TAC that does not allow you to hold two offers, even if one is a first round and one is a second round?

That's right, because the unis don't hold their own offer rounds (except late top-up offers which technically isn't a round). The unis/schools send their offer lists to TAC first for TAC to sort out who gets what, then release on the TAC round's date.

EtA: There are a few exceptions like WSU releases an early round of rural med offers in Dec whereas other NSW schools' main round is early January.

And TISC is the only TAC that does not allow you to hold two offers, even if one is a first round and one is a second round?

Yes TISC is the only one with this rule afaik.

Hello, I'm finalising my UAC course preferences and I have two spots left. Would appreciate it if I could get insights/suggestions into the following courses as a backup degree in case I am not offered a place in medicine.

Personal Profile
- Finishing Year 12 at a top 5 school in NSW
- Doing Biology, Chemistry and Ext. 1 Maths, so I have limited knowledge of Physics
- Self-estimated ATAR of ~99.00 +/- 0.50 depending on English Advanced
- UCAT cognitive score of 2770/86% (aah foolish of me to do the UCAT whilst sick) and SJT score of 681

My preferences so far:
1. Bachelor of Medical Studies/Doctor of Medicine at UNSW - incl. Bonded
2. Doctor of Medicine at WSU - GWS
3. Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (JMP) at UoN/UNE - incl. Bonded
4. *
5. *

Other medical schools I've applied for (BMP for all unis): Adelaide, Flinders, Monash, and Tasmania

Possible backup degrees:
1. B Applied Science (Diagnostic Radiography) - USYD
2. B Pharmacy - USYD
3. B of Engineering (Honours), Master of Biomedical Engineering - UNSW
4. Medicinal Chemistry (Hons) - UNSW
5. Psychology (Hons) - UNSW --> Masters of Clinical Psychology if I do end up pursuing this degree

Would prefer:
- A degree that leads to a clinical career especially in hospitals
- A degree with a decent balance between healthcare and human biochem science

Thank you :D

Is it true you can put a bonded place into the UAC pref list for UNSW and JMP this year? That's news.

Last year with the three NSW schools you could only put one entry each into your UAC pref list without specifying bonded/unbonded. Then you ticked in the supplemental applications to the schools if you wanted to be considered for a bonded offer.

Oh, I personally have never heard of that before. I simply added the course and uni to my UAC course preferences and applied as an applicant willing to be considered for a bonded place in each of the uni's respective application form.

How did it work in previous years? I don't understand.

There's only one option on UAC for the medicine courses. It's not separated into bonded and unbonded.

That was how it worked last year. Indicating bonded in the uni's application form doesn't mean you opt for bonded ONLY, it means ALSO for bonded if you don't make unbonded.

Yup, I understand that. Thank you A1, but what exactly is the problem with my list so far?

The way you wrote the prefs in your earlier post gave me & other people the impression that you were applying for bonded places only.

Oh, whoops. Sorry guys. I should've written my prefs more clearly.

Oh okay, it might work differently for UAC. SATAC separates out unbonded and bonded places so you have to add both.
