Rural Medicine Entry Goals

Hello

I am currently in Year 12 and am interested in doing medicine in the future.

I have lived in RRMA3 defined areas for 10 years and am currently completing school in Sydney.

What UMAT and ATAR should I aim for to have a decent chance of getting in?

I would primarily like to stay in NSW so uni's like UNSW and my preference.

It's very easy to play around with a lot of numbers, but it's good to start by saying that 1) nothing is guaranteed; and 2) at the end of the day all you can do it try your best.

Aiming in the 90s for both is always gonna be your best bet (higher in this range the better, esp. for ATAR. UMAT you can probably get away with lower;, and beyond that it's sorta hard to say exactly what gives you a good chance and what doesn't. This is because:
1) Every university is different in how they use scores to rank people, and how they treat rural applicants.
2) Values can vary from year to year
3) Interview is a big component that can be make or break for admission, and there's no way to predict how you'd go with that.

Sorry that it's not very exact. If you want more of an idea, there are plenty of threadshere where people post what scores got them an offer. Doing some poking around might help.

(I also posted this on your BoS thread for completeness yay)

well this should give you an idea, I am doing medicine at UQ. I lived RRA3 for 7 years and then in Brisbane for 5. Let's say u get the OP 1 equivalent, you need around 55%ile minimum to get into UQ. I have a friend who got 66%ile and is doing unbonded. I got 78%ile FYI. Also I got a JCU interview, screwed it up really bad haha. But since they have a rural bias, still got an offer for JCU Bonded. For UNSW, as long as you get at least a 96 ATAR and 150+ UMAT overall score, you are guaranteed an interview. For Monash, even though you are rural, you at least need 80%ile+.
