Adelaide UAdel Medicine: General Discussion

what do we think are the chances of a tertiary transfer offer coming out? would they even be considered in the later rounds?

I can’t remember whether there is a quota for tertiary transfer but I have vague memories of this being the case. I have two points on this:
1. If there is a quota, I’d imagine there wouldn’t be many total top up tertiary transfer offers because there’s probably not a lot of SA-based UAdel students who’d turn an offer down in the first place.
2. An MSO regular a few years ago got a 4th round tertiary transfer, so it does seem like they will top up this pathway, but there are likely very few instances where this is necessary and it can happen in any round.

To illustrate, there’s typically a pretty high ‘decline’ rate for UAdel (generally and in the collated data here at MSO). Contrast this with TT and you’ll see there are zero declines in our collated offer data here to date.

Sorry to delineate a bit here, but why do you reckon so many people decline the UAdel med offers? Is it mainly just the big distance they gotta move or something else?

Lots of crossover in their entry criteria with people likely to get home-town offers, tbh.

Does anyone have any idea why so few offers were released in the 2nd offer round even though the 1st round decline rate appeared to be high as usual?

Speculation incoming:
1. UAdel have changed the way they do things slightly by heavily preferencing locals when interview invites are made. This effectively reduces the number of interstate applicants who receive invites. Generally speaking, it is these interstate applicants who go on to report an offer that will end up declining it due to getting an offer in their home state (especially now that UAdel require ~97th%ile UCAT, that pushes the interstate group interviewed to very high on the probability list of getting home-state offers).
2. While we definitely do have SA members here, they are a smaller fraction of the whole (likewise WA and Tas). Consequently, the people we have reporting offers here tend to be predominantly from NSW (and Vic).
3. This skews the data on the rate of declines. It looks like the decline rate is high, because the NSW kids (etc) are declining their offers, but the higher rate of in-state offers due to the change in interview criteria could mean that the actual rate of declines has decreased over the last two years (it's just not reflected in the MSO numbers given the make-up of our users).
4. I'd imagine that part of the reason for moving to the tiered system of UCAT requirements was at least in part due to the ridiculously high rate of declines historically (I know someone who got a fourth round CSP a few years ago!!!) and as an attempt to reduce this time wasting.

Hmm that does make a lot of sense. I'm an SA applicant with ~79th%ile UCAT, 99.65 ATAR and feel like my interview went pretty well. Do you think I still have a chance with a later round offer considering my low UCAT or should I just focus my time on other pathways in?

It is honestly impossible to tell. I’d definitely be focussing on other pathways at this point, and treating any Med/Dent top up as a bonus rather than a sure thing. That way you’re prepared for and accepting of your back up and ready to go, and will honestly likely be in a more helpful frame of mind in the short term.

If Med comes along, yay! Surprise! If not, it’s okay because you’re ready for the alternative (logistically and psychologically).

Same here, im an SA applicant with 97th and a 99.55, interview felt good as well but 🙃 nothing from Adl yet. I don't rly know if I have a chance anymore as well, will Adl keep sending out offers? Or are the 2 main rounds the only ones.

Adelaide continues to send offers out throughout February and even into March, good luck!

Keep in mind, though, that these offers are top ups and rely on others rejecting their offers (something completely outside of your control, and of the control of the university itself - there can be no predicting if and when top up offers will be available). You shouldn't count on these offers, and should instead think of them as a bonus while you prepare for your back-up plan.

Good luck all.

There are now 18/173 spots left in Adelaide uni for medicine (domestic and international). Those 18 include sub quota for rural & international (internationals get offers until March as well).

there was not a high decline rate first round (that is outdated and occurred previously before the 50% SA interview requirement). There were 23/173 spots available post first round which means the vast majority accepted their offers. Keep in mind that of the 600 interviewees, 300 were SA, with the other 300 split between rural, internal transfer and interstaters. The decline rate would hence be low in the school-leaver pool since majority of the school leavers interviewed were from SA.
