[Undergrad] UMAT 2017 Results Discussion

Don't have enough money for bond. For JCU, I did not do English or Chemistry which are prereqs, is there a way around this? Thank you

There are options such as bridging courses which can be done over the summer break for these subjects. Alrhough you will have to call up the university to confirm this as the offer you will receive will be subject to these completions.

With these results where should I rank UWA direct entry medicine bonded/unbonded (2nd-6th, Curtin is 1st)?

Thank you

Yes, you have a chance for a Curtin interview. If you really want to do Med, then your rankings in TISC should probably be:
1. Curtin
(Assuming you don't need to list bonded/unbonded separately)
2. UWA unbonded
3. UWA bonded
(Assuming you need to list them separately)
4. Back up degree 1
5. Back up degree 2

I feel like, unfortunately, despite your stellar ATAR, your UMAT is just too low for Monash. Are you willing to consider elsewhere? You could try UWA provisional I think, assuming your actual ATAR is what you've reported, rather than your SEAS enhanced one.

Question/s: I'm taking a shot in the dark here...BUT, do any of you guys know what CIE results I need to get into the MD courses at either Monash or UNSW (both uni's are awfully vague with their course requirements and CIE uses grades like A*, A, B etc)

You will definitely get a JMP interview. You might just miss out on UNSW and UWS unfortunately.

GWS: yes

The chances look very slim but I would like to ask if I have a chance to any Universities in Australia/New Zealand (Anywhere). Should I bother applying this year at all? Thank you in advance!

Unfortunately you would not be eligible for any non-standard universities in Australia. I have no idea how it works in NZ so can't advise for sure, but I imagine you won't be competitive there either. Both your GPA and your UMAT need a bit of a boost for non-standard Med. Your GWS status helps a little, but not enough in this instance. You might want to consider graduate entry Med give you're obviously already part-way through your degree.

Hi Mana, I'm a bit confused as earlier in this forum you said that I would stand a chance of getting an interview with Adelaide and NSW with a umat of 84 (raw score 172) but now you think 178 will be the cut off. Could you please clarify? Thanks in advance

I can't explain Mana's reasoning, but I can say that information updated by A1 today changes everything with regard to UAdel. There will only be one round of interview this year, and no UMAT bonus. Things will look quite different this year, and it's very difficult for us to make predictions now. Apologies for the confusion.

Hi LMG, do you think they will miss out because of the lower ATAR? As I thought 91 would be good for NSW?

Also, thanks for the reply to my post regarding the UAdel interview confusion. You mentioned A1 updated some information- what info is this? The comment regarding only one round of interviews?

Thanks

The only thing I can help you with here is to explain ATSI and GWS! Haha! ATSI = Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, and GWS = Greater Western Sydney (as this leads to bonuses for UWS). I have no idea how CIE exams work, but given the Universities you're referring to are probably the two most popular undergrad Medicine universities in Australia, and you're not a rural applicant, you can assume you need to be achieving at the very top of the CIE rankings (whatever they might be). Your UMAT is certainly competitive, but you'll still need a very high high school result.

A UMAT of 180 tends to need an ATAR of 99.0+ for a UNSW interview. It would still be worth an application, but I would think they'll just miss out. A1's information is one or two (or three!) pages back in this thread :) It's info regarding the single round of interviews and comparisons with other Unis that do this and UMAT requirement predictions based on this (think very high 80s, low 90s).

Ahahahaha. Thanks for trying to help at least.
It seems that absolutely no one knows what the conversions are from CIE/UCAS Tariff to ATAR including the Student Liaisons from Aussie Universities (I'm not surprised at all, because you're converting from a letter that has a 10% range i.e. A* = 100-90, A = 80-89 etc to a percentile mark.)

Yes to all three. No stupid questions here :D That said, if you want to study here, you should probably try and figure out "how Australian Med schools work" pretty quick smart! The biggest thing you probably need to know is that they are now full fee paying for NZ students.

Goddamn. That's a bloody high estimated ATAR/GPA mate. You mind if I ask if you do NCEA/CIE or IB???

Given your UMAT, I'd just apply and hope for the best! I'm assuming you're doing pretty well with the CIE, otherwise you wouldn't be asking about those two Unis specifically. Best of luck!!

Thank you so much for reply, I was wondering whether a higher GPA (as the one i've posted is my semester 1 GPA and does not take into consideration my GPA for this semester) could increase my chances?
