UoA Graduate Category Chat/Enquiry

Does anyone know how UCAT actually works for grad entry at UoA? For example, is our percentile compared with everyone else also applying for grad entry through UoA and then we're given a score out of 15 based off of that? Furthermore, do we know if SJ is weighted equally to the other 3 cognitive subtests? Many thanks in advance.

Apologies for the late reply. It's best if you DM me as I don't get any email notifications with just replies.
If you're still after some insights feel free to DM me.

Increasing your UCAT is very doable. Do you have the spare cash to drop on the various UCAT practice websites? If you can pick one (I have a preference), and simply use that to practice, you can really bump up your grades.
I started completely cold and bumped my UCAT grade up by 700 points within 10 days.
Yeah I have been dumping all my free time into practice mocks and have managed to increase my score to an 1880+610 (this Sj wasn't my best by far - official mock c result). So i am hopeful with the changes made to the ucat this year. I am hoping to maintain this score or better in the mock. Thanks heaps for the advice

Hi everyone,

I'm currently studying Biomedical Science at Victoria University of Wellington and I plan to apply for graduate entry medicine at the University of Auckland.

I'm a bit unsure about the application process, including:

  • What are the exact steps and timelines I should follow?
  • What GPA or grade should I be aiming for to be competitive?
Any advice or insight from current or past applicants would be really appreciated!
Thanks so much in advance 😊

Hi everyone, I finished my PgDip in Health Science with a GPA of 8.75 and sat the UCAT recently and unfortunately received 1970 (2612 including SJT) and wanted to see whether I still have a good shot in getting into med. Should I retry the UCAT next year and try again or just do well in MMI and hopefully that can help boost my ranking?

Thank you!

What did you decide?? I would have said probably go for it as GPA is high and assume you would do well in MMI given background..

Offers are out
According to the chat on reddit sounds like the cut off might have been quite high this year which is disheartening

Hi everyone!

Does anyone know how the rankings/cut-offs work? Are we all ranked together or are the entrance schemes (e.g., mapas and rras, etc) ranked separate? for MMI and Final Offers.

Sorry if this has been asked before, I tried searching on the forums but could not find a specific answer.

Gosh things are hyper competitive this year, and it's only going to become more and more competitive in the future one would imagine. I fortunately have a GPA of 9.0, but people on reddit are quoting a GPA of over 8.0 for first year entry, which is kind of insane. I don't know if FYs and grad entries are considered together for interviews or not.

Hey, if you didn't get an interview will they send an email to you as well? or just assume that you didn't get an interview bc I didn't receive anything haha but my portal still shows up as processing

Hey there, I got an interview and received an email, but I'm not sure if you'll receive an email if you don't get an interview. Re the portal-mine still shows processing as well, and I believe it remains this way irrespective of interview status until offers come out in December/January.

i think fy and grad are ranked together (e.g. no set number of spots) but the special entry categories are each ranked within their own category - for instance if you’re rras then you’re ‘competing’ against other rras folks not the wider pool. And any spots not filled in the special categories get chucked into the wider pot. I don’t have a source doc it’s just my reckons from lots of trawling 🤓 best of luck

EDIT: it’s slightly more complicated than above re the fy/grad breakdown according to the previous mahi in this thread Graduate entry vs FY entry

Higher than a 7.95 (not including final semester grades) for minimum cutoff, graduate general?
I’m not sure sorry - the lowest grad general score I have seen so far is 8… but people are still hopeful there’s some staggering happening - idk. Fingers crossed for you if you’re still waiting, it seems like it’s really tough out there this year
