UoO: Alternative ('Other') Category Chat/Enquiries

kia ora - for anyone wanting some help/advice on applying to the alternative category this year feel free to DM me - I got in via the alternative category from the help of some VERY kind strangers on the internet (mainly this forum) and I am very keen to pass on any tips/tricks that were helpful for me, to help repay the favour
Kia ora, thank you for this. I just joined and may not be able to DM you yet. Would really like to chat about the interview process and if you have any tips and tricks. Can you please DM me? Thank you again!

Hello everyone! For those who have applied in the past, it says on the website “Allied health professionals are recommended to have not less than five years’ experience in their chosen profession(s)”. How seriously is this taken? Is this recommendation for everyone, or specifically for allied health applicants?

I’m not from an allied health but work in the healthcare space and currently have around 3–4 years of experience, so I’m wondering whether it’s worth applying now or if I should wait until I reach 5 years.

I’d also be really interested to hear from people who were accepted — what was your professional and university background?

Many thanks :)

Kia ora, invitations in 2024 were sent out on Monday 27 May :)
Will you know they did reference check or after interview invitation they will do reference check?

you need to wait next year now, the alternative pathway has been closed for 2027

Mōrena, my referees had to send in a letter of support before my interview (deadline around 10 days before). You are not involved in this at all, they get contacted individually with guidelines of what they need to write. Hope this helps!

Does anybody know of someone who applied for alternative entry under the refugee subcategory?

Hey everyone - can somebody please confirm if anyone has received an interview invitation. Also, for those who got them last year, did your referees get contacted before or after interview invitations.

Is this 10 days before your interview, or 10 days before the invitation got sent out? Thanks !

Hi there, could I please have some advice on 2027 applications through DM.

Hello! For those who got an interview invitation, when is your interview and how are you preparing for the interview? Mine is on the 15th June. Hoping we can support each other. Thanks!

Hi, do the people that have gotten interviews mind saying their profession and length of work experience in that role? or dm. Just curious if I should be holding off for next year's applications.
