2016 place offers - Med all unis

Offer: No
Uni: Adelaide MBBS
ATAR: 99.80
UMAT: 100th (225 - 100/56/70)
Special Consideration: I must have scored a zero with my interview :(

Are you interstate? I was also 100th UMAT and probably had a high ATAR (USA High School top 0.1%). Maybe I bombed interview too as I didn't receive an offer. I am a NZer and am wondering if maybe interstates/NZers will be considered for later rounds at the other universities. Thoughts?

Offer: No (not yet*, cos positivity is all that matters :))
University: Adelaide/Flinders
ATAR/GPA: 98.45 [surprised I managed this as my exams were B+/B-, lol]
UMAT: 50%ile (55-44-50) [surprised I even managed to land interview with Adel.]
Special Consideration: Rural RA2
Bonded/Unbonded: N/A

Applied for Adelaide/Flinders anyone think I have any chance at Adelaide? Would be pretty cool, but I've had so much other stuff going on this year I doubted that I would receive an offer ah ha - no surprise for that one.

EDIT: fixing format :)

this is unbelievable. May be they knew that you will get another 5-7 offers and won't come to Adelaide any way.;)

Interstate, don't know if that matters for Flinders but thought I'd add it in

Offer: yes
Uni: Adelaide MBBS
ATAR: 98.6
umat: 89 (62,56,62)
Special: Rural Ra 2
Bonded (thought I did particularly well in this interview but oh well a place is a place)
Hey, congratulations on the offer! I wouldn't worry too much about being bonded. I am a second year student at adelaide this year and I haven't come across a single person who was offered bonded first round that wasn't upgraded. It can take a while though, as they like to sort out the places first. I got upgraded from a second round offer, but it was once uni had already started.

It's good to stay positive. There is a guy who got in last year with 28 umat from rural - I don't think they look at it all that much (basically just for offering interviews). Interview is the most important thing for selection based on my understanding.

Also, interview was an absolute disaster. Like I'm pretty sure it was the worst interview in the history of med interviews :p (I know you can't really tell how you've gone in interviews etc...but this was something else).

I felt my WSU interview probably went the worst out of the three undergrad NSW unis since I messed up two stations outright (or so I felt) and I didn't finish another one :S
The things they're looking for baffle me.

Hi ferris,
Congratulations. Have you decided about which one are you going to accept? Are you from NSW?

Congrats Daus.
I'm curious what encourages you to choose the 4yr + 4yr path. For me 7 yrs is already too long.
Well I did apply for both Adelaide and Monash MBBS (my preferred course) but looks like I did not get interviews for either, being interstate.

Secondly, in terms of honours vs non-honours, it's not set in stone that I have to undertake the final year. If I decide that I am eager to start medicine as soon as possible I could opt out. If I find a research idea I find really compelling, then it gives me the chance for a great opportunity, all without having to take the GAMSAT.

All in all, I guess what I'm trying to say is that my happiness matters more than the course length. Of course I would love to start practicing med as soon as possible, but if that's not available I'm fine with taking my time and enjoying the whole experience, studying things I really enjoy :)

Hey guys,

Not sure if this has been mentioned anywhere else, but this year the terms for Bonded places have changed. You will only need to work in a rural location for 1 year, as opposed X number of years equal to the duration of your medical degree. On top of that, you even have to option of paying out of the bonded year, so don't stress! :)

I'd encourage people who have been offered a Bonded place to accept it. With the shortages of internship places at the moment, many of us will be required to work in a rural area anyways, and don't even get me started on specialty training positions. :(
