Admissions Centres Questions and Discussion

Hello A1 and friends, I am from NSW and trying to understand the maximum of preference courses are limited to 5 in each TAC? so in this case if I apply 5 preferences of Medicine courses (UQ, CSQ, USQ, JCU, Griffith) then I can't apply for BOND?

or UQ, CSQ and USQ are considered as single code? because all of them are provision entry MD into UQ.

Appreciate your reply

Each TAC has different rules and requirements, and on top of that each uni or course may have different rules. Some don’t split campuses and CSP vs BMP, some do.

You’re looking at QTAC here. If you’re wanting to apply to all possible med options in Queensland unfortunately you’re definitely going to run out of space.

Is this for 2025 entry?

No this is for 2026 entry and I just started to think my options as I am at Rock bottom with ucat stuff and also not great in my task 1 HSC in NSW school. I really appreciated your reply.

Also when I am exploring further, QTAC even got different codes for BONDED and UNBONDED and again different for each campus. (e.g. CQU code 1 (Bonded) and 2 (Unbonded) (Rockhampton campus), CQU code 3(Bonded) and 4 (Unbonded). so 4 options over here itself for CQU if we seriously wanted in CQU only.

Yep, it’s really not ideal.

But at the same time, it’s not vital you sort this out now. Once you have an active UCAT score and a reliably predicted ATAR you can come here and we’ll help you sort through your realistic options.

Useful to know it can be a shit show, but nothing for you to worry about right now.

I can't tell enough thanks to Medstudentonline team. you are giving time to help so many students like me with so much valuable info. Thank you very much

Hi DrDrLMG!

Do we have some page where we can find number of medicine seats in each university (bonded and non-bonded) and it entry requirements (like ATAR and UCAT cut off) please?

I've received an offer to study the Bachelor of Science at the University of Melbourne and plan to accept it before any medicine offers are released next week. However, I noticed something on the course description page for medicine at Flinders. It mentions that "applicants who have enrolled in a higher education level program at an Australian/overseas university"may be affected. Does this mean accepting a higher education course like the Bachelor of Science offer at UniMelb could make me ineligible for Flinders medicine this year? Thank you

From my understanding, no. You are still eligible for an offer as you are an applicant that is using your performance from SACE Stage 2 or IB (or interstate/overseas equiv) for entry into the double degree at flinders. You do not currently have an academic record of study at a tertiary institution (unless you've done it as part of SACE but it says its okay later on so that's fine)

The word enrolled^ here does not mean the action of enrolling but that you have a tertiary academic record.

Your academic record is only formalised on the census date of each semester. If you enrol then withdraw before the date you neither have a record nor incur the HECS fees.

Thank you very much for the help like always 2xq and A1, I should just accept it for now. Just one more question, when would this 'census date of semester' be?

You can find them on your university's website. In your case, it would be UniMelb as per below

Hey, if we are given a 1st round offer are we told instantly whether its bonded or non-bonded, or is this information we receive after accepting the offer?

Also if someone could just chuck us a detailed summary on how the whole application process works, in relation to uac and the different rounds of offers, that would be great. Thank you :))
Yes you will be told if the offer is bonded or non-bonded. Even if you accept a bonded offer, you will still be eligible for a non-bonded offer if one becomes available (ie another student offered a non-bonded offer drops out/defers/accepts offer from another medical school). This presumes that you have applied for both a bonded and non-bonded offer. UAC will continue to make offers while the 'musical chairs' continue until term starts and/or all places are filled.

Do not get too dispondant if you do not get a first round offer as all the medical schools are chasing the few top students who will have to settle somewhere and then the offers will start filtering down to the rest.

I would just go to the website. There is detailed information there and as the rules and regulation and dates change from year to year, it is in your best interest to be diligent here and go to the source instead of accepting a second hard information. Just note that applications for Medicine closes months earlier than other subjects and that you need to prepare and sit for the UMAT UCAT. (Edited by mod: RIP UMAT 🙏🏻)

QTAC QUESTION.
Say I get a miss out on my first preference uq med offer, but get a griffith med offer in the first round. Given that I have to respond to that offer before its deadline, does that mean I will either have to play it safe and accept the griffith offer (meaning i cant get uq), or reject it and risk getting a uq second round offer?

Check in QTAC website for exact info. I understand with QTAC the way to do is accept the Griffith offer *conditionally*, then make sure or move Griffth to lower pref than the one(s) that you wish to receive an offer in the later rounds.

Also beware that if you do get a higher-pref round 2 offer, QTAC may automatically take back the Griffith offer. You don't get the luxury of then choosing between the two offers.
