Bond Bond Medicine: General Discussion

I have applied for FEE-HELP at the current Uni for Physio, census date end of this month. So can I still fill in the FEE-HELP form online for Bond? Will this be automatically transferred to Bond? Any experiences?

IIRC the application is more/less your authorisation for the uni to take your fees from HECS/FEE-HELP under your name & tax file number. If that was with a different uni they won't transfer it to Bond, you will need to do a new one for Bond.

Quick questions for current Bond Medicine students:
  1. After submission of the FEE-HELP form online and got the 'approved' status, do I need to pay the 1st semester fee stated on the offer form?
  2. Will Bond deduct all future semester fees on the FEE-HELP until all $150,000 been used up and then I need to pay afterwards?
  3. For the first 2 years of the Bach of Medical Studies, are most lectures and tutorials based at the Faculty of Health Sciences & Medicine building where we had the interview?
  4. For the last 2 years, where will the main placement or rotations be?
  5. Where can I access the 2019 Calendar for the Medical Program?
Thanks

To answer your questions,

1. After submitting the FEE-HELP form, you just need to pay the SAF (Services and activities fee) which is ~$100.
2. You only have to submit the FEE-HELP form once and Bond will continue to deduct until the $150 000 limit is reached.
3. Yes, most of your lectures and practicals are on campus. There will be occasional off-campus stuff like placement ~ once a semester.
4. There isn't a specific calendar for med - but there is the normal academic calendar which you can find here:

Academic calendar

Hope that helps!

Great thanks for all these. So I could save more money first and not to worry about payment until end of 2020.

Probably don't need textbooks - bar perhaps Tally and O'Connor I'd say. You also need to purchase a stethoscope (perhaps not now but once you start learning how to perform clinical examinations).

Hi guys!
Do first years usually live on campus? If so what sort of room does everyone generally get?
Also, to you really need an ophthalmoscope?
Cheers!

I didn't go to Bond, but I sincerely hope no medical school makes their students buy ophthalmoscopes. A handy skill, but not one that warrants such an expensive purchase at a medical student level.

The uni provided the first years with stethoscopes last year, not sure if it was an additional cost or part of the fees though.
Does anyone know how many second round offers there were last year?

I heard about 10 offers being made (look at the link here, 4th post: Bond Med 2018 Discussion), don't take my word for it though as that lady did say that there were no 2nd round offers the year before. People are definitely declining this year so look out for any 2nd round offers.
When’s the Facebook group going to be made ?

Someone in Bond HMSA (EDIT: MBBSU) will produce the facebook group once they get a finalised list of the cohort, which probably won't happen until all the 2nd round offers are finalised (Definitely not by next Tuesday).

You can choose to either live on or off-campus when you attend Bond. Some first-year med students lived off campus right from the first semester, but if you want to get to know the med cohort better and become familiar with the uni, it's a smart idea to at least spend your first semester on campus.

Even though there are multiple accommodation buildings to choose from, most of them are usually occupied by other Bond students who have the opportunity to choose what rooms they'd like to live in the week before new students joining Bond in may get to choose what rooms they'd like (including me hehe). As a result, most med students end up copping the cheapest on-campus option, a shared single room consisting of two beds with a shared ensuite in the accommodation centre (AC) building. However, there are always a very small handful of much better rooms available when the portal opens (March 25th at 12 noon), so here's what I suggest you do if you don't want to share a room with another person:

- Get the enrolment process for the medical program completed to the point where you can access the student housing portal (Bond University Student Housing) before room choices for new students commence.
- Create your account and place your details in before the portal opens so that you are ready to go.
- You are competing with every student (med and non-med) who is starting in the next semester to get a room, it's first come first serve, so ensure you enter the student housing portal the moment it opens so that you can choose the best room possible (make sure you look at the options on the bond website and in the link below before you choose a room).
- If you get a more private option, well done, you can live on-campus more comfortably.

If you don't, don't worry too much, 90% of the time you'll usually get to know the person you're living with really well and make a lasting connection, and you will get to know a lot of med students living in AC as well, but you will have to learn how to deal with living with someone in the same room. Make sure to email student housing and request to share the room with another 1st-year med student so it makes life a little easier and you can both go to class together.

In regards to what accommodation options you should consider and not consider so much, please look at Artherisph's post on this link Bond Medicine 2017. If you don't want to read the whole thing, then TLDR: AVOID THE BLOCKS, VARSITY TOWERS AND UNIVERSITY PLACE AT ALL COSTS. Everything else is ok.

And no, the uni would definitely not expect first-year med students to buy an ophthalmoscope before o-week lmao.

Hope this helped o_O.

Edit: "You will be required to purchase a stethoscope to participate in clinical skills classes. MSSBU will be offering Littman Classic III stethoscopes at a discounted price during our first semester. Fill out the information consent form attached and a link to an order form will be sent to you within the next few weeks."

So if I am going to get a rental apartment, those available on the Varsity Parade will be close by the main Medicine Building (the one that we had our interview) within 5-10 mins walking distance?
