Is it ethical for med students/doctors to watch pornography and generally do they?
How is porn watching different from any other activity?
I'm considering starting a thread called 'ethics of golf', because the act of hitting a small, defenseless object with a long cane for pleasure is highly violent and may alter the doctor's professional behaviour.
Also, it's highly demeaning to spherical objects, and may lead to the doctor treating all spherical anatomy without respect.
Doctors are meant to be patient oriented. I know there a lots of factors involved, but would a patient want to go to a doctor who fantasizes about sexual experiences in such a way? Just a thought.
Saracasm aside, I fail to see how the ethics of watching pornography should be any different from a doctor's perspective than from any other professional's. What makes doctors *so* special that one should consider it immoral to do certain things which would otherwise be moral for other people?
I think this is a silly thread with no real basis. ethic of porn on the other hand (ie the derogatory nature of it if you believe it) could be a discussion. but as long as the doctor in question is professional about ti (ie not watch it at work or talk about it with patients or colleagues) i think it perfectly ethical and legitimate.
What's unprofessional about talking about porn to colleagues? Isn't that the whole premise of Nip/Tuck?
In a professional setting such as a clinic, i think it is inappropriate. But as a friend outside your work place, i think it is fine. Nip/Tuck...really? disappointing china XD
Don't be knocking Nip/Tuck - it's sadly underrated.
Doctors can watch porn, Engineers can watch porn, Lawyers can watch porn... any civil professional isn't legally bound to not watch porn - as long as they keep that hobby out of the workplace and professional encounters.
I would be more worried if priests/nuns/religious leaders were into porn. Especially the one's who have taken vows to be celibate.

Not to try and change the debate, but i'm actually worried about those who take vows to be celibate, since they are denying themselves of human nature only to have them be doing even worse things (ahem, pedophile) from lack of these sort of things, well even if they don't then still. Those vows are ridiculous.
It doesn't matter what you think about those vows, you aren't the one thats taking it. Also what makes you conclude that taking a vow of celibacy leads to pedophilia?
not a cause-effect, but there is some correlation, think about the number of cases involving priests over ttime.. obviously one cannot deny this happens.. if society was slightly less ignorant of the fact, they would not allow priests to spend countless hours alone with young boys associated with the church.
yuck, this all makes me feel sick.
