General Medicine Entry Discussion and Advice Requests

Hmm that's a bit odd... they said my corrected final atar was 99.50. And yes there were 2 people on mso receiving offers with 99.50. Can one of the moderators weigh in on this please?
I’ll probably give them a call. Were you talking to someone from from Griffith future students from the number on their website? Also, can I ask what your a levels were and whether they use 3 or 4 A levels in their conversion. Thanks again

When I called them, they said that the cutoff was 99.75, even after I pointed out that there were people who got in with 99.50, so I don't think calling them would be the best option. They explained their mistake and advised me that I will receive an offer when I emailed to [email protected] , so I think that would be your best bet.
My A Level results were 3A*1B, and from my understanding, they calculate 2 atars, one using 3 and the other using 4 subjects, and give you the highest one.
What were your results?

Your asking this indicates you were an A Level student. Is there a risk your English subject did not meet Griffith's prereq?
Griffith confirmed that you would need a grade of D or higher in either O Level or A Level English. This is required even if you have studied in English medium

I’m pretty sure I would have met their English requirement because I took English all the way to A2 level
Your QTAC account will tell you if you met the prerequisite or not, if you want to be 100% sure. Just look at your preference list and it will either say "Satisfied" or "Unsatisfied".

It says satisfied next to all my preferences

I had an A*A*AA which I saw someone on mso say was 99.70

I wouldn't be too sure. A 99.7 means roughly in the top 0.3%.
From my knowledge of previous A level grade boundaries, they can be much more extensive than those in Aus
Also, the ATAR system is far more incremental than A levels or even IB, meaning that each mark/percent matters more.
If you heard this on MSO I would seek more specific advice (not that MSO isn't great!)
Sorry to sound overly harsh, best of luck with Griffith!

I got 98th percentile this year in UCAT and interviewed at WSU and JMP, however only achieved a 5.25 GPA. It’s not the content was difficult, I just invested way too much time on UCAT and hence messed up the first semester. This is what the email I received said:

“Offers were made to more competitive applicants for the following:
  • Pref 1 725505 Doctor of Medicine at Western Sydney University 17 Feb 2020 (Course type: CSP)
Your qualification/s do not meet the minimum requirement for the following:
  • Pref 2 785000 B Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (Joint Medical Program) at Uni Newcastle/UNE 24 Feb 2020 (Course type: CSP)

From this I conclude that I interviewed alright at WSU but my GPA cut me off (5.9 GPA required for GWS) and I probably bombed the interview at JMP (4.7 GPA required), please correct me if I’m wrong. I’m just wondering what I should do now.

Is it possible to redo first year uni and does the GPA reset? Obviously 2nd year uni is meant to be more difficult and to come back from a 5.25 won’t be easy. Should I start another degree? Really want to do med

What was your ATAR? It’s possible WSU would have used it instead of your GPA if it was above the ATAR hurdle required. This would mean it was your interview that unfortunately let you down at both, and that you should continue on to second year.

93.45  so below the required 93.5 for GWS

Ahh, damn. What course did you study at Uni this year?
Was previously doing Comm/Eco at UNSW and then changed to Health Science at WSU. Not trying to sound cocky, but Health Science is not a difficult course, you just need to know a decent amount of content. After previously messing up UMAT I really wanted to give my all to the UCAT.

hi! read the common pitfalls an was wondering what were the thoughts on deferring an offer and taking a gap year to resit the ukcat in hopes of getting a homestate offer?

Smart move. The only time I wouldn't is if the uni you were aiming for was able to be entered as a non-standard and what you got an offer for was a pre entry rather than a med degree straight up. But then again that one is up to you. But yeah there is nothing to lose by doing that.
