Monash Monash Medicine: General Entry Discussion

Hello, if I'm interstate with a 99.95 atar and a 96% UCAT, what are my chances at getting an interview in Monash round 3
Can't say with certainty but I think 99.95+96%ile have very good chances getting Monash interview.

I know Monash has a 75% in state quota, but does that mean 75% of people invited to interview are Vic students (meaning I will be on equal footing after interview invite) or 75% of final students accepted?
From numbers I've seen around Monash interviews 190 round1 Vic + 190 round2 Vic for 140 non-DRL places.
Then 60 interstate for 30 places. Non-DRL Vic is like 80% of the non-DRL quota.

They & you are in separate pools with no cross-comparison. You don't compete against Vic applicants on the offer ranking, similar to non-rural not competing against rural.

(meaning I'll need to perform significantly better than vic students in interview with same stats)
Yes, Vic applicants with same as your ATAR+UCAT need little from the interview to qualify for a place offer (since they already have a top + a better than median out of three equally-weighted components). But note as above you don't compete against them.

Consolation is some interstate invitees won't turn up after having got a home state offer by then. So it's like 30 places for 40-50 interviewees - the best ratio in the country.

Does anyone know if theres a significant move for international waitlist for graduate entry medicine at monash?

Like in case if anyone ever heard of internationals getting offers at second round?

Any information is greatly appreciated!! Thank you.

What about interstate interviews for ATAR of 99.95 and ucat of 2400 (95% percentile)? Thanks

A1 replies: I'm very optimistic you'll get Monash interview.
UNSW interview should be a definite yes. Best of luck.

Hi A1,
My daughter got 98.50 ATAR and UCAT 2150 Lives in MM3 Victoria. Do you think she will get an offer in second round offers? She got offers from UNSW already.

For non-rural applicants I'd say very little chance since Monash 2nd round offers are more/less exclusive for interstate.

Rural may be different though. If there are declines (from 1st round who have now got a home state offer) they must go only to rural applicants like your daughter, so there is some hope. Best of luck.

HI A1,
I am sorry to bother you again. my daughter's friend got a first round offer and His stats are atar 98.70 and ucat 2080. lives in mm3. he applied as csp, bmp, erc and got a bmp place. my daughter applied as csp, erc, bmp. is that the case my daughter missed first round? is it still disadvantage for the second round? please explain.

Hi guys, I just had a few questions relating to Monash.

What are the competitive stats for interstate rural students at Monash?

Does the degree of rurality affect admissions to Monash?

Are DRL interviews different and sat separately, and are different questions asked?

Any information would be much appreciated

The interview score constitutes 1/3rd of the ranking for place offers, we cannot compare between applicants on their ATAR/UCAT alone. Monash doesn't disclose interview scores so we don't know by how much your daughter fell short of an offer.

If your daughter and the friend attended the same interview round, there's no round2 advantage/disadvantage involved. It's simply top-up offers (from the declines Monash receives) to the next-in-line rural applicants who just missed out 1st round offers.

Data posted on MSO indicate rural 68%ile or better would get an interview, no difference between Vic & interstate rural.

I'm fairly sure for Monash it's yes/no rural, not degree of rurality.

Iirc rural interviews are earlier, don't know about the interview questions. However since rural is a separate pool you're not ranked against non-rural for offers, so it doesn't matter whether you get the same or different questions.

Does anyone know how many second/subsequent round offers Monash sends out?

If it depends on how many decline, do rural declines only go to other rural students and metro declines metro students?

Since Monash has an interview round for interstate they release these offers in a formal 2nd round. For convenience they would also include top-up offers in this lot if they have any 1st round declines.

Afterwards if/when more late declines are received they would contact the next-in-line applicants individually. There's no definitive how many subsequent rounds/offers.

If it depends on how many decline, do rural declines only go to other rural students and metro declines metro students?
Monash (and other schools too) has a target % of rural in the cohort. So rural declines do not go to non-rural and vice versa, otherwise it messes up this target.
