Applying as a non-standard, but won’t have second semester results until after the interview dates for UNSW since the semester has been pushed back. Do I say I have completed 1 semester or 1 year of study?? And do I just apply with my semester 1 GPA? Also - just wondering about how GPA and ATAR are weighted ? My ATAR was 97.7 and I have a GPA of 7. Im not sure if this will give me a competitive enough score for UNSW (I’m applying at WSU and JMP too though) but was wondering what it might boost my atar to.
Unfortunately UNSW is looking unlikely even if your 7 GPA is converted to the maximum of 99.50. UNSW averages your ATAR and ATAR equivalent of your GPA, but the issue is that they have a hard cutoff of 99.25 for interviews. This means that in order to get one as a non-standard, the MINIMUM ATAR you need to have is 99.00 (99.00 + 99.50 averaged = 99.25). It would change every year, there’s no non-standard quota.Hey guys, does anyone know how many non-standard place offers the JMP usually give out? Cheers
Hello, I'm new to the forum and I just wanted to ask a couple of things. I'm in my second yr of medsci at UNSW so I have completed more than one year of tertiary study. For JMP do I just need to meet the hurdle of a 4.7 GPA in order to qualify? Also, I'm applying for the lateral transfer program at unsw with a HD wam and 87 UCAT (I know it's quite low). I was curious if anyone has any information about the marks of people who were offered a interviews for lateral at UNSW.
wow thank you for such a fast response! Would you be able to link me to the correct forums? I'm still finding my way aroundYes, for JMP, that's all you need. For lateral entry UNSW, have a look at the collated offers data (Offers subforum) for the last few years. We don't usually get much reported, but there are typically a few, I think. ETA: NOTE; we mostly have offer data for lateral, rather than interview.

From what I've heard the cutoff scores are insanely high (so an 87 UCAT would likely not be enough, unfortunately) but Smelly Boy might be able to help out with some info. Also, I'm applying for the lateral transfer program at unsw with a HD wam and 87 UCAT (I know it's quite low). Hey guys hope your well, I am a NZ citizen, graduated with an extremely hopeless atar to study medicine, despite getting offers to study biomed, i rejected them, I applied overseas in Prague, at Charles first faculty of Med. And I am looking at the possibility of transferring after I finish my first or second year, I have heard there is a slim possibility depending circumstances, and they are for medically related reasons. What are my options and what is the possiblity of this?
Your help is much appreciated
Cheers for your swift reply. What I meant by transfer is that, say I finished my first or second year, and applied or a transfer, recognition of credits, even if I have to start the degree over again, I guess I am willing to. I know alot of UK univesrities and alot of the universities except transfer students maybe because of the Euro union and all, But maybe possibly I can try for the non-standard pathway by enquiring with the uni's today.Do you mean you're hoping to transfer into year 2 or 3 of an Australian (or Kiwi?) medical degree with a partially completed international degree (just clarifying the details of your question).
If so, I'd have to say your chances are probably flat out zero (though I know less about the NZ system).
Even between universities here in Australia, the transfer process is for extremely exceptional circumstances and we've had a few people here at MSO report trying it, but none report being successful.
Instead, if you're talking about applying as a non-standard applicant to study an Australian medical degree from scratch with the GPA you attain from your first couple of years of Medicine overseas, then that is more possible (though, tbh, seems like an incredibly risky plan if that is the whole basis of you accepting an international offer). There are a couple of the non-standard universities who exclude current medical students however I think that only applies to current students of Australian degrees, not international degrees. But I have to think there are easier ways to apply to non-standard universities than moving to Prague (as lovely as it is in that part of the world!).
I'd be very keen to hear more about your motivations and long term plans.

Thanks mate, you've really put things into perspective. I'll keep you updated as to how things have panned out. There is a transfer 'pathway' (I hesitate to call it that as it probably suggests it's a clear-cut route, when that is far from the case) here in Australia for people already studying medicine to move sideways (effectively) into the same level of a degree at a different university. It is INCREDIBLY RARE for anyone to be accepted and the circumstances must be exceptional (as I mentioned in my first reply). I don't know, but I honestly think it would be impossible for someone to achieve this with a couple of completed years of an international degree.
The only true option I can see for this (somewhat convoluted!) pathway to an Australian medical degree would be applying as a non-standard applicant using the GPA you attain during your medical studies. The only non-standard university that accepts applications for Recognition of Prior Learning for medicine content is James Cook University. And even then, I'd imagine it would be difficult to get credit for international units. None of the other universities will accept this and you will have to start from day one year one regardless of your previous study.
Honestly, I think it'd be useful having a chat about alternative options to an international medical degree altogether, and if you'd like more info on this, we have some threads already in existence plus I'd be happy to chat further.
hi,just want to know how they calculate GPA for year one part time student ?
