Yep, I believe so!

ETA: I think it’s been mentioned in the JMP thread, perhaps by dotwingz?
ETA2: and you can’t just be any old UoN student, I don’t think. It was for a specific course of study (BMedSci is mentioned in the thread though I’m not 100% sure about that).
ETA3: It’s BBioMedSci
ETA4: (omg, sorry!) I actually can’t find the reference to it being scrapped already, so I might be making that up! I’ll wait for someone who knows more (I still think that’s likely to be dotwingz) to weigh in!
Sorry to ask a dumb question. ... what do you guys mean by ETA? I googled short abbreviations; but the results are always: ETA - Estimated Time of Arrival. 🤔🤔🤔

Hello! Thank you for your reply :)
Unfortunately I didn't get around to applying interstate! But I did apply for UNSW this year.
I think my UCAT should be ok, I improved heaps from last year and got 3290.
Can I ask if you got interview with UNSW last year? Your atar was so high.

Wow it sounds like nursing pathway to med would be pretty slim.
Curious as to what others think about the best way to get into med in my position is? Is nursing a bit of a pipe dream?
I’m skeptical about doing biomed sci as obviously there’s a huge glut of undergrads who don’t get into med and end up clogging the workforce...

What about the pre-med course at UOW? Is that a money spinner or legitimate option?

Hi jayson, I am curious - are you an applicant this year or just enquiring out of interest? Did you end up choosing UQ or Adelaide this year?

Why do you say that? You can be currently studying nursing and apply as a non-standard applicant to JMP, JPM, JCU, UNSW and Bond while completing your nursing degree - note that JPM, JMP and UNSW require UCAT. Then once you’re in the final year / have completed the nursing degree you can apply via graduate entry (GAMSAT pathway) and you’ve got an option of 6 grad entry preferences via GEMSAS + Flinders + USYD (all grad entry unis) + Curtin (undergraduate entry for those with a completed degree). Your odds as a nursing student/grad will be the same as students of any other degree program, and you’ll have the added benefit of having studied something you actually wanted to, with a stable career path at the end of it, and if you get into medicine you can work casually as a nurse to support yourself.

Think my initial answer covers the “best way”. Your skepticism is a good thing - don’t do biomed sci if that’s your viewpoint!

It’s essentially equivalent to biomed sci. It’s just a cash grab for the uni and the odds aren’t really any better in my opinion, as you still need the portfolio and interview performance of a high enough quality to compete with the rest of the applicant pool.

Yeah i’m not quite exactly sure what’s going on with that program. They’re restructuring the degree again despite only restructuring it last in 2017

Based on this email with JMP it doesn’t seem like that big of a program anyways

I second everything Crow said! I’m sorry that my reply (only meant to provide clarification on some initial points raised by A1) might have sounded like I was endorsing the BBioMedSci/BMedRes etc money-grabbing pathways offered by some unis. I resoundingly do not! Your BNurs plan sounds excellent and the (very few) spots you wouldn’t have available to you by doing this are not spots I’d ever recommend prioritising.

Also, in addition to the unis mentioned by Crow, there’ll be ~12 places on offer at UTAS by the time you are ready for them.

Can anyone shed some light.

With USYDs exam block and results delayed (stating results will not be available till the 12th of January), how is it going to impact offer rounds such as Newcastle which comes out on the 8th of January for both standard and non-standard entrants?

With JMP/JPM it's simple since ATAR/GPA is a hurdle. They can make conditional offers subject to your GPA meeting the hurdle after 12th Jan (if someone's fails to meet their spot goes to top-ups).

More complicated for schools that weight GPA into the final ranking, I don't know what to guess. Maybe they will defer your offer to 2nd round which is after 12th Jan.

Are you sure this actually happens? I'd imagine they'd make the offer if they meet the hurdle with the currently available set of results, but not conditionally like GEMSAS does (or at least, I've never heard of this happening before).

WhackMan - I recommend you contact the universities you are applying to and see what they have to say. It's possible they haven't taken this into consideration given it's unique to this year.

It hasn't happened before because UAC usually runs a GPA update early January (based on UNSW saying your results must be available to UAC then) to collect Nov/Dec uni results in preparation for offers made 10ish Jan. This year is different with some uni results not known until 12th, so I guess conditional offers is one way to overcome.

I doubt they would make unconditional offers based on current GPA which could be only half a year, because in such case would JMP take the applicant's ATAR instead since they haven't got 1 FTE results?

For UNSW non-standard entry, I am aware that they combine ATAR and GPA instead of just looking at ATAR. For UNSW students, would they consider T3 result as well as T1 and T2? Or would it be just T1 and T2?

I hope they will wait to include T3 as well otherwise you could be worse off. If T1+T2 = less than 6 units UNSW use your ATAR only, if T1+T2 = 6 or 7 units it's ATAR+GPA but since less than 1FTE the GPA to ATAR equiv rank conversion is terrible.

Hello, I'm new to the forum and I just wanted to ask a couple of things. I'm in my second yr of medsci at UNSW so I have completed more than one year of tertiary study. For JMP do I just need to meet the hurdle of a 4.7 GPA in order to qualify? Also, I'm applying for the lateral transfer program at unsw with a HD wam and 87 UCAT (I know it's quite low :( ). I was curious if anyone has any information about the marks of people who were offered a interviews for lateral at UNSW.
Hey, I just came across this post and thought it would be a good idea to shed some light on unsw lateral entry. As a student currently enrolled in the program, I would say your marks are definitely competive to get an interview! Feel free to ask me any more questions!

Hello I was just wondering how to calculate my GPA as I have read and been told conflicting things. Is it
1. Add together the score (e.g. 6,7) of each subject and then divide it by the total number of subjects (100/15) or
2. Does it depend on the years because I have only done one subject in my 3rd year(during the second semester) and have just taken the rest of the year off. (so is it (51/8 + 41/6 + 6) /3)
So my scores for my first year was 5 HDs, 3D, my scores for my second year was 5 HDs 1D and my third year was just 1D. If its the latter method, my GPA reduces to a 6.4861 but if its the first it is 6.67 and I really want to apply for UQ which requires a 6.5 GPA.
Thanks a lot

it’s the first. Add up scores and divide by total number of units. Years are irrelevant for non-standard entry.
