Hey guys, I have a question here.
I know we can't get previous mid-term exam papers officially.
But is there any where to get them?? If we can't get them then how did you guys prepare for the mid-term exam??
Thanks :)

I wouldn't worry about this until the tests :)

However,

PHSI191 - last year they made them available from the department office for 50 cents each. If they don't do this, questions are the same style/difficulty as in final exam anyway.
CHEM191 - they'll make the previous years test available.
CELS191 - you get study questions (with model answers) which are similar. Final exam papers from 2007 and earlier have questions identical in style/difficulty/content.
HEAL192 - they MAY give you some questions from previous tests.

Other papers - can look at final exam questions (though different in style, they still give you an indication of knowledge level required), or just study the content and quiz yourself along the way.

Hey AmyT :)
I'm living in Salmond this year and I'm doing HSFY so no worries! hehe I was getting a little worried that I didn't know anyone else either.

And just a question for everyone... :) the kind of First Aid Certificate we need to obtain, is it "Workplace First Aid"?

Thanks ya'll :D

Yep workplace first aid or NCEA-recognized equivalent.

Any1 staying at Arana this year?

I think it's good that you guys are staying in halls. You get to meet heaps of people, get free tutes etc etc.
Sucks that I'm staying at home :-(

Not long til uni starts...

Yeah same here I really wish i could stay at a hall, im gonna be living in a studio room. I really wanted the free tutes!

Hello all!
Figured I'd lurked for long enough and had best jump on board.

Out of curiosity, anyone on here going to Cumberland?

And, anyone going to be a part of St John (Youth and Events First Aid)? I'm transferring down there, would be nice to know if anyone else would be new at division :)

HSFY Otago study tips

Hey, just wondering how you studied during HSFY? what worked what didnt. did you use a laptop to take notes at lectures? or just on paper. Also how did you organise your notes, seems to be quite a lot of information!

Any study tips appreciated.

well well well, it looks like I'll be doing HSFY this year.

I'm a graduate student (and have already been accepted into medicine), but the faculty of medicine require me to complete the HSFY courses. So they've reserved me a position for the 2012 2nd year med cohort.

Thankfully graduates only need to get a B (or better) average in the HSFY courses, so it shouldn't be another killer year (my honours year was crazy).

qbob is the reason you have to do HSFY because you first degree wasn't relevent to science or something?? Just though I'd ask.
:)
Not necessarily - it just didn't cover HSFY contents.

If the applicant is successful in gaining admission then the content covered in their degree will be looked at. If they have studied all the HSFY papers, or covered equivalent content, in the course of their degree, then they will be admitted directly into 2nd year medicine. If not, then they will be given a year to complete any required HSFY papers to at least a 70% average before progressing into 2nd year medicine.

I was just wondering how everyone is feeling about the upcoming year... Like are you all nervous? Pumped? Scared? I'm like a little bit of everything but I know this is what I want so...

if anyone wants any help or tips for hsfy msg me - or any general questions, I perfer talking on MSN though
would love to help!

Doodle,
yea totally understand. I'm incredibly excited at the idea of uni in general but also freaking out about it too, especially the workload, cuz i'll be working part-time aswell...
but same with you, I know definitely that this is what I want to do, so hopefully I'll be motivated enough to get through it all...

If you're going for medicine, working part-time really isn't the best idea during HSFY! But if you absolutely must, don't do more than one day (8-hours) of work.
