Do the lecture slides change much every year, cause I have a copy of the physics slides from last year and was wondering if the slides will be different this year?

Hi guys,
The timetable which I got is pretty bad. On Thursdays and Fridays I have lectures and labs for 7 hours in a row from 11am to 6pm! In between I only have 10 minute breaks and I don't even have time for lunch. Do you think if I went to some of the departments to change stream that they would let me? Or should I just stream jump, although I don't want to be caught out when they start checking our I.D. Anyway, I'm kind of freaking out about my timetable because I don't think I'll be able to concentrate very well for 7 hours in a row! It would be great if you guys could give me some suggestions on what I should do.

Also, where do we get the answers for the problems in the physics textbook? Thanks.

That timetable sounds pretty evil, personally on those days I'd just jump streams... The only semester one subject I remember ever ID scanning was HUBS (who did it like twice in the entire semester).
And they'll give you some of the answers on blackboard, it was a bit annoying last year that they only gave us some of the answers to it... They might change that for this year, or failing that you can ask your physics lab demonstrator, PHSI labs are more like tutorials than 'labs' anyway.

Hey guys, now that the lectures for hsfy are starting on Monday, I am so nervous! Do you guys have any advice on what to do from now till Monday? I feel so unprepared at the moment- I've decided that I'm just going to go in with pen and paper to jot notes down, but is there anything else that I should think about as preparation for lectures? Thanks

Sleep. Get some. You're right on the money with 'just a pen and paper' (although for PHSI I know a lot of people liked using the coursebook with the slides). But honestly, just use this weekend to be nice and rested for Monday, that's about the most productive thing you can do at this stage imo.

yep i see the same thing! embarassingly enough, its driving me up the wall... i keep feeling the need to check bb every 5 seconds to see if they've put anything up! please tell me I'm not the only one :S. lol. did you find the lecture slides (for phsi)? :)

You're not the only one, It's driving me mad as well!

Yea, finally managed to get the physics slides, turns out that they're the same! (its horrible trying to download pdf's on dialup x.x)

If you have a copy of the HUBS textbook, read about the different types of tissues found in the human body. That's it.

The first HUBS lecture has a bit of content, whereas the first CELS, CHEM, and PHSI lectures are all introductory lectures consisting solely of housekeeping matters you need to be aware of, and some vague hints on how to go about your study if you're lucky.

Cheers!

Is it just me, or has hubs not uploaded anything on blackboard yet?

Hey guys, just thought we should tell you that HUBS is the only department in the first semester that does not post lecture slides on Blackboard before lectures, so don't panic. You probably won't find anything from the HUBS Blackboard until Monday night. We've tried protesting to them to release the lecture slides before the lecture, but they just plainly refuse and tell us to shut up about the subject.
Annoying, huh?

Relax while doing Health Sci, because if you don't, the pressure just gets to you and you can't do anything. Now is definitely not the time to be getting stressed or nervous.
Good luck and may The Force be with you :-)

Hey @DreamNimbus108, where on blackboard do you go to, to download the slides for each course?
Thanks ^_^

hello rawry! first of all, a belated welcome to mso and this thread! :D

Ok next where to find the lecture slides:
For PHSI191:
Click on the course link on your home tab under 'my papers' then click on 'Study Materials'... then scroll right down to the end and you'll see a bunch of folders named '(insert name of topic) Lecture Notes'. Click on each one of those and there's the lecture slides.
For CELS191:
I haven't managed to find any lecture slides or anything, but if you go to course resources, and then click on lecture resources there is stuff under headings like 'Lecture 1: (insert name of lecture)' with additional readings that you need to do and stuff.
For CHEM191:
If you go to the CHEM191 link, and then click on 'lectures' on the tabs on the side, there'll be a heading saying 'Lecture Summary Notes'. Under this, in really tiny writing, there's a link called "Module 1.pdf" I don't think these are lecture slides, but they definitely look like information that is supposed to be on a lecture slides... its probably like a typed version of the lecture slides or something? Oh hang on, i've just found under the same page, at the bottom, there's the lecture slides for the stoichometry (if that's how you spell it) overview (first lecture). :)
For HUBS191:
You may have noticed above, but just in case, frustratingly enough, HUBS hasn't even enrolled us in their blackboard paper yet. So can't see anything...But apparently, they don't release the lecture slides until after the lectures, so there probably wouldn't have been anything

:)

Hey guys, and yeah, my computer won't even let me on Blackboard, for some reason.... But are we supposed to be downloading the lecture slides now?

There is no "supposed to" - you download the slides if you want to, and don't download the slides if you don't want to. This is uni, and that means you do what you want to do, study how you want to study.

Just one more- for labs, apart from our lab manuals and lab coats, pen and paper, do we need to bring anything else?

Nope, that's about it.
[offtopic]Wow, you lot are an excitable bunch. This thread is already 65 pages long and HSFY hasn't even started yet :p [/offtopic]

Does the actual stream code (e.g LL1 for chem) actually mean anything to us? i.e will we need to know the stream for administration logging and other stuff?

Also, is it possible to get e-copies of the textbooks? (I have a copy of the Cambell and Reece biology from high school, but what about physics and chem and hubs?)
