Hey guys, for CELS have you guys studied/are going to study about the structure of viruses and prions, and also the difference between protists and fungi?

It's on the lecture objectives but the lecturer didn't even talk about it, at least not much :/

If it's on the objectives, you'll want to know at least a little bit about it. CELS terms test (and finals, for that matter) questions tend to be heavily based on objectives, which is actually a good thing for you, because it means you know what they're likely to ask about.

I read up a bit about it because apparently cells = learning objectives more than any other paper...
Anyway this is what I've got if it helps, I think it's right?????

Protists = Eukaryotes (mainly unicellular) which are autotrophic, no cell wall (except Algae)
Fungi = Eukaryotes (mainly multicellular) which are heterotrophic; they recycle organic material; have chitin-containing cell walls; are saprophytic

Viruses = Genetic material in a protein-coat which implant proteins in cells. These proteins then reprogramme cell to produce more virus proteins which eventually build up and rupture cell.
Prions = Most basic, they are abnormal, misfolded proteins which employ normal proteins, changing them into abnormal proteins to act as infectious agents.

Hey guys, curious do we need to know the formulas for surface tension on physics? It wasn't on the lecture slides and the questions in the textbook are really hard..

Not sure we can give you a reliable answer one way or the other... Have a look at past exams at the library exams website to see if they've asked for it in the past. Then if you're in doubt as to whether it'll be in the terms test, you can always go to the physics department office (up the stairs opposite the entry into Science Library) and buy copies of some of the past terms tests. If they haven't asked it in the past it's likely (read: not certain) that you won't need it.

Hey -- just fyi, i looked it up in the textbook -- i'm at uni now though, so i don't have the page references or anything, but I will edit in what pages I had a look at later :) I think this particular lecture's readings were "essential", so it might be a good idea to read the section (if you have time) :)

Burns 2.. At least it's close... I think, never been there.
