ohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgod.

I was taught how little I know about plants.

And I confused gylcoproteins and proteoglycans.

Brb anhero, but not really.

lol, same here! i'm seriously completely lost as to why, plants would feature in a course designed to be the first year of 5 health science courses - none of which include "how plants are so much more awesome than people" (according to the lecturer)

Genuinely think it wasn't too bad. It definitely could have gone better, but it wasn't horrible. The scale question threw me off a bit, as well as some others. Glad it's not going to be tested on again though!
^AMEN. scale question was pretty mean :( Esp, because I didn't really learn the actual size ranges of the stuff, just that some are bigger/smaller than the others :/ lol

Overall, apart from the darned plants sections it was prettyy good. I wish I'd spent last night on plants, rather than stupid oxidative phosphorylation and photosynthesis. NOT EVEN ONE QUESTION on it... except i think one of the multiple choice questions MIGHT have mentioned "electron transport chain"...

Made a few STUPID mistakes, like forgetting fibroblasts were the ECM producing cells etc etc. but fingers crossed didn't get too many wrong... No use getting caught up over it, got to focus on Chem and Phsi now!

OH NOOOO! monday's the final day we get with the current HUBS lecturer!

To make it worse, we get the lecturer who just reads of the slides after her :/

Goddamn sizes. Gettin druuuuuuunk
That's the spirit!

1) It's a first year science course titled 'cells and molecular biology'. Since plants have cells, I'd find it a little odd if they weren't included. Sure, it's essentially irrelevant to the professional courses, but then, CELS is a biology paper, not a med/dent/pham/physio paper.
2) You'll get more than enough electron transport chain, oxidative phosphorylation, etc in BIOC192, don't worry :p

Isn't a lecturer who reads off her slides a good thing???

yes. very good. but not when they read off the slides, and just add a little raising off the eyebrow at the end, with pretty much no emotion whatsoever... (aka no explaining) although granted the last time we had her, she was pretty much chowing through theoretical stuff... ANYHOOS, this lecturer, sounded like a robot to me last time. woosh through the head.

See for e.g. our current lecturer, the other day brought in this massive magnified model of a brain, so that she could show us the different layers of the meninges (this brain had like legit covers and everything - you probably saw it too!)...
i'm not saying that every lecturer has to do this, but I think lecturers *should* at least try to explain things in a way that is understandable --- rather than just throw in the jargon that they use everyday and expect us to know and follow it within 5 seconds whilst they add more and more jargon?
My point being = don't like lecturers who aren't like teachers, therefore, I expect WAYYY TOO MUCH of lecturers. which I shouldn't. But I will anyway. :/

Dude, I'm sleeping at like 1030. Was up so late last night because dicks outside were being so loud aha. Then back to hardcore studying chem/physics until the terms tests :)

haha same, keen to just watch a movie and go to bed early.
Woooooo physics+chem! I'm actually kinda looking forward to studying for them

Hello everyone :) Does anybody know where past mid semester papers might be for CHEM 191? I went on the library catalogue, but there seems to be only ones for end of year ones... Thanks

The library website generally only has final exams.

The chemistry department will probably load some past mid-sem exams onto blackboard eventually.

Oh okay. So what would you say is the best way to prepare for them until the past papers are loaded up? Textbook exercises?

They have study group worksheets on blackboard for chem I think, give them a go?

Closer to the test (like, the week before it) they'll probably release the previous year's terms test. And I know for a fact that there's *plenty* of copies of old terms tests floating around in HSFY, so if you ask around in your college/labs, you might be surprised what people have managed to find.

juna, did you find any of the worksheet questions difficult, or feel a bit uncertain about sections in particular? Those are the best kinds of questions to drill before the mid-sem. If you thought the worksheets were a breeze, think back to the lectures and isolate anything you feel iffy about, or anything the lecturer particularly emphasized, and study that.

HUBS is out y'all :)

Just to clear it up for anyone confused, go to the blackboard homepage then click 'my grades' on the left. It's not on the HUBS area of blackboard.
