And you lot didn't listen when I told you the SAQ section was hard :p Always a lot harder to work out single-word answers in the exam (for me, at least), because you're not given any cues like you are with MCQ, and so any exam stress --> SAQ mind-blanks.
Hope you all went well, and even if you didn't, nothing you can do about it now, so time for CELS!

Well then o great frootloop, any advice for CELS?

Well. Hope all you guys went well! It was quite OK for me I suppose - forgot all about some of the really basics stuff whilst studying, and I didn't realise I'd forgotten them = me guessing and fudging 1st essay question. I think I eventually remembered a little bit of what to write, but it was all out of order, and really crappily written, so i'll probably lose around half the marks, with 0.5 gone for structure as well D: LOL. Apart from that, I found the essay questions OK.
Hope everyone went okay :) personally for me my essay spilled out of the box which I hope I don't get penalised for.. but hey, glad to get it over and done with :)

DW! I did this too :L lol, except for aforementioned 1st qn :/. I don't think we'll lose marks though, hopefully 'fits inside the box' isn't one of the criterion for the 0.5 marks allocated to structure and clarity :/

I actually found the SAQ to be a lot more difficult than the past years :(

But other than that I think all went ok...hopefully...

Yer guys, same here - I was really uncomfortable about it whilst writing answers :/ (Esp the one about bilateral blah blah, I didn't exactly know whether my phrasing was good or not :/) Couldn't really tell exactly what they wanted etc D:

Yea, I found the SAQ a lot harder and more ambiguous than previous years. The penicillin questions was not good, our whole row in chem lab hated it x.x

The penicillin question >.> AAARGH. I could only half remember the process, and I forgot exactly how the penicillin was broken down to present it on the surface? well actually scrap that, I have no recollection of ever learning how penicillin was recognised - I knew that it was the beta lactam ring blah blah attaching to self proteins and stuff... but then I was like... so how exactly does the penicillin appear on the surface? And besides, i thought it was IgE mediated D:. Horror question. Screwed it up.

Was it just me or did it seem that viral immunity to antigens wasn't really covered in the lectures/covered really badly?
I agree, it was really badly covered. The lecturer we had 2nd last's brief outline of it, really really really HELPED me understand it and also BLACKBOARD. I swear that thing helped me gazillions, it filled up with questions from the last 3 lectures, and all the basics were pretty much covered on there.

Overall, it was ok... I'm just a little bummed about some of the MCQ questions (aforementioned small basic details that I ignored whilst studying), and the SAQ especially D: Hopefully it doesn't turn out too bad :/

Good luck for CELS on monday and the other 2 as well!

GUESS WHAT? 1 DOWN, 3 TO GO :D Not long. Not long at all! *dances*

The SAQ were a bit :S
I was honestly expecting a "Fill in the blanks with this word bank" set of questions which never came up.
also the one that threw me off was the MCQ that asked about the Heart @____@

Hey mate, for the quotations, use "quote" at the bottom of the chat box of the person who you want to quote and smiley faces are on the option bar thingy right above where you are typing (when in the interface for replying) or hit this button : followed by a bracket for a smiley, also heart is mononucleated :)

LOL dw, they sit a different exam (provided they apply successfully for special consideration), university rules.

I can't find the page with it myself, but if you try: Smilies - Med Students Online you should get a list of smilies... or you might get an official looking page saying 'sorry you do not have access to this page'. In any case... the smilies that can be used also appear in the box when you click the smiley face button on the top of the 'quick reply' box :)

[OFFTOPIC]ROFLMAO. you are hilarious. lol[/OFFTOPIC]

It was, and I have no idea what that question was...

EDIT: I think Nimbus meant the ventricles in the brain, not the heart.

Oh by the way, calculating the distance between genes is just recombinant frequency x 100 = centimorgan? If so could someone please tell me if 2007 cels final question 5d is 39.65cM? It seems too easy to be 3 marks :P

@Proshot , LOL looks like someone's acing the past papers ;)

Haha, I am yet to finish studying, let alone start past papers D:
